Principal's Message
Dear Parents,

Curriculum is defined as the work and learning of students. It involves instructional planning on the part of the teacher, the use of effective instructional strategies with students, and ongoing assessment of student learning. Curriculum provides students, teachers and parents with clear goals and targets for achievement. Out of this grows the work of teachers: instructional planning and delivery, and assessment practices that will support students in their development and learning.

The school district gives common district summative assessments in math, science, writing, and social studies to assist schools, teachers and the district monitor student progress in district curriculum goals.

The window or time the common district assessments will be given is shown below. Once these assessments have been scored you will be able to find the results on the Skyward grade book on line.  Parent Access registration information can be found at http://www.lwsd.org/Parents/Parent-Access/Pages/default.aspx

Recipients of the Fall 2010 Classroom Grants were announced recently and over $40,000 was awarded to 30 different schools in the District. Grants were different this year as they were limited to one per school, focused on extended learning, and capped at $1500. A list of the approved grants can be found here, and at www.lwsf.org

More information from Lake Washington Schools Foundation can be found linked here.

What Books are Your Child Reading this Year?

A letter was sent home this week reminding parents to help encourage your children to increase not just the number of books that they read, but to challenge them to find books that are at their reading level and to explore a variety of genres. To help parents and students identify appropriate reading level content, our Librarian, Ms. Sandbo, wants you to know about her book list recommendations at our school website.  Enjoy reading with your children!
