Mr. Tobin's Weekly Message |
Einstein Families and Einstein Staff,
Important Budget Input Meetings:
As you know, the legislative decisions being made in Olympia right now will have significant impacts on the Lake Washington School District budget for the 2010-2011 school year. As he did last year, Dr. Kimball will be seeking community input regarding the prioritization of possible cuts to school programs and services. Those who participated in last year's community input meetings found them to be informative and felt that their voices were heard. There are a number of community meetings scheduled this month. The closest one (geographically) for us is on March 24 at Redmond High School and I will be attending that one. If the RHS meeting doesn't work well for your schedule, you are more than welcome to attend any of the others. An online input form will be also be available on the district website from March 15 through March 26.
March 16 - Juanita HS, 7-9 p.m.
March 17 - Rose Hill Jr. High, 4-6 p.m.
March 17 - Lake Washington HS, 7-9 p.m.
March 24 - Redmond HS, 7-9 p.m.
March 25 - Eastlake HS, 7-9 p.m.
Have a great weekend!
Jack M. Tobin

| School District Budget Input Sessions |
|

The state legislature is currently working on the state budget and indications are that K-12 public education will get even less money next year from the state. Estimates of the budget cuts Lake Washington School District will have to make based on proposals range from $3.6 million to $8.4 million. Cutting that much more from the district budget after last year's $7.7 million cuts will be difficult.
As noted in Mr Tobin's message above, parents, staff and community members are invited to attend any one of five meetings where they will receive information on the expected budget and potential options for where to reduce the district budget. Everyone will have the opportunity to fill out and submit a form with their choices.
For those who cannot attend one of these meetings, the information will also be available on the district Web site. An online input form will be open from March 15 through March 26. |
