Dear Friend,
With the advance of spring, our thoughts turn to....Earth Day, EE Week and World Ocean Day! There are many ways to celebrate these key dates on the environmental calendar. Earth Day (April 22nd) has inspired a bounty of festivals and events to choose from - explore www.earthday.org to find the right one for you. National Environmental Education Week, the week before Earth Day, connects educators with resources to encourage environmental stewardship in K-12 students. This year's theme is Ocean Connections - www.eeweek.org. World Ocean's Day is June 8th and this year's theme is Youth: the Next Wave of Change. Visit www.worldoceanday.org for creative ways to celebrate the ocean. But don't wait for Earth Day! Demonstrate your commitment to the coast and ocean every day, by taking the Coastal Stewardship Pledge.

Coastal Steward Tips
Spring is here, and you know what that means - time for spring cleaning. As you begin your spring cleaning this year, consider these useful tips to keep our planet, and your family, healthy all year long.
Tip #1: To clean the driveway or patio, use a broom instead of the hose; this reduces the dirty water flowing into storm drains as well as conserves water. Tip #2: Use less toxic cleaning products such as baking soda and vinegar. Download the Clean It! brochure for ideas. For more suggestions on green spring cleaning, click here |
