Why Boundaries?
Have you ever been around people who treat you as though you exist solely to meet their needs or expectations?
Have you felt that they see you as an extension of themselves and do not respect your desires?
Those people who are never satisfied with you or what you do may be called narcissists.
Have you ever been involved with people who place a lower priority on their own needs, while they are continuously preoccupied with satisfying the needs of others?
Have you felt the need to protect them because they do not respect their own desires and feel powerless in setting boundaries between SELF and others'? Those people who are attached to you by the hip and cannot do anything without you may be called co-dependents.
Setting appropriate limits is a common problem in dealing with both narcissists and co-dependents. Their psychological boundaries are either excessively aggressive or timidly passive.
Last Sunday while watching the world report on CNN, I could not resist comparing our global conflicts with our personal relational issues: China and the U.S. argued over human rights, like married couples who want to keep their individual independence; Israel and bordering countries fought over land, like neighbors who can't stand each other because of common property line disputes; European nations haggled over their financial debt crisis, like most people do in today's economical downturns; Iran and most of other nations feuded over restrictions on nuclear power, like the corporate CEOs who fight for a bigger share of the market; and Islamic countries worried over the future of Egypt and the spread of the Arab Spring, like parents whose children are growing up and will leave home soon.
In one way or another stressful issues are personally or globally affecting us. When our personal or national territories are threatened or violated we feel stressed. Our psychological boundaries are similar to the geographic borders of the countries. Each one has uniquely defined boundaries that need clear outlines and the power to protect them. On a cellular level we are all separated by the cell-membrane's flexibility or permeability. In a psychological way we are separated from one another by physical, mental and emotional boundaries.
Psychological boundaries are limits that define us as a distinct individual separate from all others. Our mental boundaries show how well defined our beliefs are; emotional boundaries are centered on self-esteem and self-worth; and, physical boundaries are the realities of our health and security. Together they define our responsibilities and our choices. They define where "I" ends and where "you" begins. As each cell in the body serves its purpose, the cells collectively are responsible for the maintenance and survival of our body.
By comparing cellular, personal, and national boundaries I have noticed a huge confusion in boundary setting. Even our cells are getting confused and breaking boundaries. Isn't cancer dominating our health as our personal, economical, environmental, and international boundaries are stressed out everyday? Stress is a subjective experience when we feel powerless in responsibly protecting our boundaries, or when we feel aggressive in anxiously defending our interests.
We are supposedly taught to respect each other's boundaries and not to cross them without obtaining permission. Unfortunately, like illegal immigrants who cross borders without applying for a visa, some people cross personal boundaries without any respect for other people's limitations. Similar to invading countries, some people aggressively assault others in physical, emotional, and sexual ways. They leave devastating emotional scars just like the ruined buildings and rubble when a city is bombed. If we are not respectful of personal boundaries, how can we expect nations to respect other countries borders and sovereignties?
Setting effective and clear boundaries is not an easy task. It requires SELF-REALIZATION. It is in every individual's best interest to have a clear understanding of him or her SELF. Being aware, staying clear, having the ability to adjust, considering our rights, understanding duties, finding time to pay attention, realizing what to receive, deciding how to give, differentiating our needs, and pursuing our interests effectively are all essential in accomplishing SELF-REALIZATION. It also needs consistent learning and practice. By awareness, clarification, and adjustment each one of us has the right and the duty to pay clear attention to our "give and takes", according to our needs or interests.
The following attributes are important signs of inability to set clear boundaries....Read more!

Introducing Amy Cheryl, Certified Polarity Therapist; the Wheel's newest team member!
Here in LA, the weather has been 80 degrees...a testament that spring is fast moving upon us. With spring, comes a new blossoming: a time to awaken into the new allowing the old to die off. This natural cycle of nature is like that of us human beings. We breathe in, we breathe out: A constant reminder that we must let go to receive new or we will wither away. I remember learning this concept when I was in Polarity Therapy School and it made so much sense to me (and is an inevitable part of life), yet it something we often struggle with and are fearful of...growth...change...death...re-birthing into the unknown.
What is Polarity Therapy?
In life, we are not meant to do it alone and we are actually a lot more to handle then we may realize. We have our thoughts (mental body), our emotions (emotional body), our physical body and our energy body. It is easy for all of this to get tangled and as a result, we can drown in our emotions, get caught up in our stories and we may be living our current life based on what past traumas are still stuck inside the cells of our bodies instead of who we really are and what our potential is.
Polarity Therapy can help to provide support for our life journey. It addresses and integrates all of who we are and what we are going through in that moment so that we may live our best life. It incorporates counseling, hands on bodywork (energy balancing), nutritional guidance and cleanses and supportive movement known as Polarity Yoga. The results are quick and profound where each session can bring about an "Ah-Ha" moment.
What are some Benefits of Polarity Therapy?
- Unresolved trauma can be accessed and healed.
- PMS can be brought into balance
- Anxiety can be eliminated
- Better Sleep
- Increased ability to handle life's twist's and turns
- Improved relationship to self and with others
- Physical ailments can be reduced and resolved

- Inner Peace and Inner Happiness
