ART of Receiving

By Dr. Daniel Sadigh

Receiving

As I was searching in my collected material for a talk on "the bread of shame", a poem by Langston Hughes grabbed my attention:

Let all who will,

Eat quietly the bread of shame.

I cannot,

Without complaining loud and long.

Tasting its bitterness in my throat,

And feeling to my very soul

It's wrong.

For honest work

You proffer me poor pay,

for honest dreams

Your spit is in my face,

And so my fist is clenched

Today-

To strike your face

If you are not familiar with the" bread of shame", it is a Kabalistic term that stands for "restriction on enjoyment from an undeserved gift". As I understand it the dissatisfaction with one's self for being the subject of receiving, in a one way relationship without being able to give back, bakes such a heavy resentment and shame that one cannot swallow any piece of it. It's a mouthful, but all it means is that earning what we receive brings on value and self-worth; it becomes impossible to be happy when one feels no value in a relationship.

Then what happens to charity? How a person who receives favors and donations is able to go on with a happy and satisfied life? Why some people are great givers but do not appreciate receiving? And, what happens when the bread of shame turns the receiver into the hateful enemy of the giver?

In my personal and practical experiences, I have witnessed many examples of self-sabotaging and unreasonable behaviors stemming from such resentment and shame... Read on

If you enjoy this subject, please listen to "A Moment with Self" on www.blogtalkradio.com/drdaniel and download "Bread of Shame" program by Dr. Sadigh.  Your comments on the blog will help others to learn more about this common phenomenon.  Dr. Sadigh is a Clinical Psychologist and LMFT: www.drsadigh.com

Developing a Spiritual Practice:
Mindfulness in Action

Lead by Dr. Susan Crimmins

 Saturday, July 30
9:30 am - 5:30 pm

Spiritual awakening
What centers you in moments of distress or upheaval? Are you able to ground yourself in trusting that all is well despite appearances to the contrary? In these challenging times of juggling responsibilities of relationships, finances, and daily routines it seems many of us lose our focus on what is real, important and fulfilling. To move into a state of BE-ING that invites alignment, freedom to choose and spiritual guidance requires surrender, discipline and a healthy sense of humor.

Come and experience how developing a spiritual practice of mindfulness in action will allow you to strengthen your spiritual immunity by relaxing into "what is" with a sense of renewal. Your spiritual practice of BE-ING will allow you to face whatever is occurring in your daily life with a centered, embodied sense of knowing that all is well, ALL-WAYS!

Connect with who you really are by awakening your Divine Essence

Learn how to utilize meditation and prayer

Access your Spirit Guides and learn how to communicate with them

Develop your unique practice of spiritually BE-ING through experiential exercises

Enhance your perception of subtle energies & strengthen your intrinsic healing abilities

Susan Crimmins is an inspirational speaker who conducts trainings and workshops in integrative healing, serves as a consultant to educators,

therapists, media and criminal justice practitioners, and has a clinical practice at the Wheel of Wellbeing in Los Angeles, CA. Currently, Dr. Crimmins is writing a book entitled, "The Practice of BE-ING," which addresses how we can navigate any experience of overwhelm by connecting and aligning with our soul's calling.
