Greetings!
A big and hearty St. Max welcome to both Fr. Rob Muhlenkamp, Priest in residence and teacher at Badin High School and Jeremy Helmes, Pastoral Associate for Liturgy and Music - may both be blessed with many years of fruitful ministry here! May God bless them both abundantly! Special THANKS to all who organized and supported Fr. McCarthy's farewell reception last Sunday. It was very nice and an appropriate gesture of gratitude to him.
This weekend is the Independence Day holiday. Please pray for our country and all who serve and protect it. Since July 4 falls on a Sunday, as a civil holiday it does not supersede the normal Sunday liturgy in Ordinary Time - readings, prayers, and songs today are for the Sunday liturgy. We will have our Mass to commemorate Independence Day on Monday, July 5 at 9:00 a.m., the day on which the civil holiday is being observed throughout the nation.
That's all for now - God bless!
FR. GEOFF |

A WORD FROM THE PASTORAL ASSOCIATE FOR LITURGY & MUSIC, Jeremy Helmes
Thanks to the many of you who have already welcomed me so warmly - I already feel very at home here at St. Max, and I look forward to ministering to and with you. Together, I hope we can build upon the wonderful liturgical life here in the parish and continue the joyful duty of praising God and celebrating the Eucharist.
A significant part of our liturgical life is musical - the Church teaches that "Christ is truly present when the Church prays AND SINGS." We sing to express our faith in a way that mere words cannot. This happens primarily when as a liturgical assembly, we join our voices together in song. Yet such singing requires musical leadership.
Our adult choir will resume its schedule in the fall. Our 8a Sunday ensemble continues its weekly ministry during the summer. I am grateful to all of these musicians for their time and talent. If you are interested in joining either of these musical groups, please contact me for more information.
I hope to support the work of our existing psalmists and cantors, and to involve more talented leaders of sung prayer in this ministry. If there is enough interest from the children of the parish, I hope to begin a children's choir this fall or soon after. I also hope to begin a handbell choir to enhance our liturgical music program. Stay tuned for more details about these ministry opportunities, or contact me for more information or to express your interest.
I am eager to involve as many willing and talented musicians as are in our parish - youth and adults, singers and instrumentalists. Together, we can continue the work of leading St. Max in sung liturgical prayer. Please e-mail or call me in the parish office with any questions you have about getting involved in music ministry at St. Max.

Just an update from the festival:
Thanks to everyone for volunteering and supporting the festival. Once bills are paid, financial information will be released. Please continue to patronize generous sponsor businesses. At left is Colleen S., niece of Fr. Geoff Drew, winner of the 15,000 Kolbe Kash Prize. Colleen says she'll be using her winnings to support her college tuition payments this year! Congratulations!
St Maximilian Kolbe Parish thanks all our business sponsors-without their support our festival would not be possible!

Electronic Funds Transfer
St Max is pleased to offer Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) to our parishioners. It's the easy, convenient and safe way to make your contribution to Sunday Offerings or Debt Reduction.
EFT is easy You can make your Sunday Offering or a donation to Debt Reduction without the hassle of writing a check. You'll never have to scramble during Mass to make out a check or search for cash as the basket is coming by.
EFT is convenient Enjoy the convenience and reliability of having your bank forward your gift to St. Max automatically. You also may choose to have the amount you select deducted automatically from your checking or savings account weekly or monthly. You don't have to do a thing except sign up! To enroll in the program, complete the authorization form on the reverse side of this paper. You may also obtain a form on our website www.saintmax.org/pforms.shtml. Return the form with a voided check via the collection basket or snail mail.
EFT is safe There are several safeguards built into the program to ensure no one can withdraw anything from your account except what you have authorized. Plus, you may change the amount or cancel your participation at any time.
EFT helps St. Max . When people make a regular commitment of support, St. Max is better able to plan our income and expenses. This is important for the financial stability of our parish.
EFT encourages good stewardship Switching to EFT is a good time to examine your sharing with the Church. When we give a gift to another person, the more we love that person, the more care we take in selecting a gift that shows how we feel about that person. Our Church is God's gift to us. When we share our gifts with the Church, we are doing God's work. A gift that is rooted in prayer and is proportional to our means is one of the essential ways to show our thanks for all that God does for us. |
