Greetings!

Lent begins this week on Ash Wednesday, February 17.  Masses with Imposition of Ashes are at 8:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Ash Wednesday is a day of fast.  Those between the ages of 18 and 59 are limited to one full meal and no "snacks" between meals.  Those younger than 18 or those 60 or older are still encouraged to fast in an appropriate way to their age and health.

Ash Wednesday is also a day of abstinence from meat as are all Fridays of Lent.  All aged 14 and older are bound to abstain totally from meat.  Similarly, those younger than 14 are also encouraged, but not required, to appropriately abstain.

As part of our Lenten preparation for Easter, everyone is encouraged to celebrate the Sacrament of Penance.  We have added some additional hours each week for individual confessions on Thursdays after the morning Mass until 10:00 a.m. and again in the evening from 6:00-7:00 p.m.  Saturday individual confessions are still from 3:00-4:00 p.m.  As we get closer to Easter we will also have individual confessions on Saturday, March 27 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. and Monday, March 29 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m.  We are also celebrating two communal reconciliation services during the Lenten season on Saturday, March 6 at 10:00 a.m. and Wednesday, March 10 at 7:00 p.m.

As always, the Stations of the Cross will be prayed on Fridays at 7:30 p.m.  And we will also add a Saturday morning Mass at 8:30 a.m. during the season of Lent.

For Lent 2010, I would encourage all to think about this holy season of Lent in terms of GIVING.

GIVING IN to God through more focused and more frequent prayer... GIVING UP something, fasting from that which distracts us from the Lord or gets in the way of our relationship with the Lord... GIVING TO those in need by works of charity and almsgiving... and FORGIVING each other and ourselves with the same unconditional, total mercy with which the Lord embraces each of us.  Don't let Lent 2010 pass you by!

That's all for now!  God bless one and all!

Fr. Geoff

Traveling Crucifix for VocationsYear of Priest Icon

Beginning this Lent, the Vocation Committee invites interested families to receive the Vocations Crucifix in their homes and to pray in a special way for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life. During the week, the family displays the crucifix in their prayer corner, mantle or other prominent place to gather daily for a time of prayer. Then at the end of the week, return the crucifix to the gathering space for the next family to enjoy for the upcoming week.

If your family would like to participate in the Vocations Crucifix Program for a week or have any questions, please contact Lori Lutz, 777-7756, or LoriLutz@fuse.net to sign up for a week.
