Hello loyal & new ZIED GUIDE subscribers,

Hope you all had a great week. Thanks for making last week's newsletter the most popular one yet! I am thankful to all of you for your continued support, and as always, love your comments and suggestions to make the ZIED GUIDE something you look forward to (just about every week).

In this week's ZIED GUIDE, you'll find a delicious recipe for chicken alfredo. You'll also read about potatoes, and why they're so maligned (and why they shouldn't be). You'll also find my food and nutrition tips on GALTime to help you get through cold & flu season, and learn about FOOD DAY, a great new initiative by CSPI that kicks off today.

Hope you all have a great week!

Until next time,

Elisa

Chicken Alfredo with Zucchini Ribbons

As the weather cools, no doubt you increasingly turn to comfort foods. Get your fix--without getting into a nutritional or dietary jam--with this creamy, sinless recipe from Elie Krieger's appealing & beautiful new cookbook, Comfort Food Fix.

Are You a Tater Hater?

Potatoes, despite their natural goodness, continue to make headlines. While we all know deep fried options like French fries and potato chips are not the best picks when it comes to health, potatoes can be health assets when prepared in healthful ways and when proper portions of them--in the context of a healthy diet--are consumed.

Read more about why some hate on potatoes right here, and check out more of my comments (and those of my friend and colleague, Dave Grotto, who says potatoes are NOT Darth Tater) right here

Food Day

On October 24th, 2011, Centers for Science in the Public Interest launched the first ever FOOD DAY. Learn why it's important to eat real and find out more about this wonderful initiative right here.
Who Ya Gonna Call? COLD BUSTERS!

It's starting--the sniffling, sneezing, coughing and aching. Check out my tips (and that of my colleague and friend, registered dietitian Joan Salge-Blake) on GALTime to bust a cold and stay in the game this Fall and Winter.
