Hello,
Hope you all had a nice rest of summer despite Mother Nature. Living on the East Coast, I have many friends and family members who lost power in their homes and had to deal with things like flooded basements and downed trees. We lost power ourselves, and while Irene was certainly an inconvenience, I feel fortunate that those I love were safe and sound and that nothing more serious transpired. Hope you're all safe wherever you are! In this week's ZIED GUIDE, you'll learn about the benefits and potential negatives associated with low calorie diets. I find the topic of calorie restriction fascinating, and while I don't generally support these types of diets, there's some evidence they may help you live longer if done properly. You'll also find nutrition, food, and other tips to help kids boost their brain power to maximize their success both in the classroom and on the playing field. You'll also find my responses to two recent PARENTS magazine reader questions. Finally, you may say potato, but I say purple potato! Read about a new (albeit small) unpublished study I wrote about for MSNBC.COM that shows how these colorful spuds may reduce blood pressure. Hope you have a great week! Elisa |
