Hope your week is off to a great start!

I write this week's newsletter from sunny (and I mean sunny!) California. The weather has been insanely gorgeous, and my husband and I have taken full advantage of having some time to be active and enjoy the beauty here. He's played golf most mornings, and I've taken lots of walks. And just yesterday, we hiked on two beautiful, hilly trails, and logged more than 14,000 steps.

Unfortunately, a little pain near my right deltoid/tricep has prevented me from doing upper body weights this week (I'm sure it's nothing serious). But I refuse to let a little discomfort totally derail my fitness habits!

I hope you've had some time to try some new classes or activities, spend more active time outdoors, and do other things to challenge your body and mind. If you don't have tons of time, taking out even 5, 10, or 20 minutes can make a difference, help you burn some calories, and help you keep your muscles strong and your body limber. It all counts.

As always, please don't hesitate to send me your nutrition, food, diet, and lifestyle questions-- you can connect with me on Twitter or on Facebook, or email me at elisa@elisazied.com. You may very well see your questions answered in an upcoming article, blog, video, or tv segment, so please stay tuned!

Hope you have a fantastic week! Until next time,

Elisa

Should There Be a Diet Soda Tax?

Do you think diet soda can contribute to obesity, and, if so, should it be taxed as a way to combat the problem of overweight in America? Although the jury is still out on this one, it's a pretty interesting topic. I recently weighed in on the topic for YouBeauty.com, Dr. Oz's new health and beauty web site.

What to Feed Your Kid (& Yourself)

Parents magazine asked for my two cents about the new icon, MyPlate. As you probably already know, MyPlate reflects current Dietary Guidelines for Americans and replaces the food pyramid as a tool to help you and your family eat more healthfully. I also weighed in about MyPlate in Tots to Teens Magazine
