Hello all,

Hope your week was great!

Since summer is almost in full swing, this week's newsletter takes a closer look at some of your favorite sips, and how to make them work for (instead of against) you. You'll also learn how to lose weight (or at least prevent weight gain) with MyPlate, the USDA's replacement for the familiar (but not always understood) food pyramid. You'll also learn more about polycystic kidney disease (PKD), a cause close to my heart.

Speaking of summer sips, I have tremendously cut back on my Diet Coke habit over the last 10 days (am I counting?!). I used to only have only a can or two on most days, but over the last few years, my intake has become out of control. It's become my snack, my comfort food if you will, and I love the taste! But now, instead of sipping on it constantly, I resolved to have it only when I eat out or am at a party (which isn't every day), or when I'm traveling during a meal time. I won't keep it at home or in my purse, which has been a lifesaver. And I'm replacing the missing Diet Coke with a lot of plain water (my favorite). Although my mood this past week has been less than cheerful (perhaps because I'm not getting a kick of caffeine--and I don't drink any coffee!), I know my body will get used to my new, more healthful drinking habits in time.

What have you curtailed in your diet and why? And how's it going? Let me know on Facebook or Twitter.

I hope you have a fit, active, and enjoyable week, and please let me know about your great summer plans!

Until next time,

Elisa
