Hello all,

Hope you all had a fantastic weekend, and that you all went outside and did some active and enjoyable activities solo or with friends, family, or loved ones. Last Friday, I finished up my walk a marathon and will be on to a new challenge this month--see below for details about 20/20/60.

I'll be back with a supersized ZIED GUIDE newsletter next month. I'm taking a brief hiatus to work on a book proposal and prepare a talk--and those of you who are parents know how busy the end of the school year can be!

To begin May on a high note, I'm happy to share my Q & A with Rachel Begun, a registered dietitian and fellow Yankee fan (two reasons why I love her). She gets personal to raise awareness of National Celiac Awareness Month and lend a hand to those who have the condition.

You'll also find tips & recipes to help kids start their day off strong and perform better at school, and learn how we can get fit together.

Have a wonderful, active, and enjoyable month and please stay in touch as always via email, Facebook, and/or Twitter.

Get Fit With Me

I'm happy to report that I met my Walk A Marathon goal for the month of April. My goal was to power walk the distance of a marathon each and every week. In total, I walked more than 104 miles. Having a specific weekly goal really motivated me to get it done--even if that meant walking on the treadmill (lots of rain prevented me from always walking outside--which I much prefer.) To celebrate the accomplishment, and to thank you for all of your support in my endeavor, I donated $200 ($2 for each mile walked) to the amazing Brooklyn-based childhood obesity program in Brooklyn, New York, Live Light Live Right.

Because I love having goals, I decided to create a new challenge for myself for the month of May. My goal is to do 20/20/60-- 20 miles of power walking, 20 minutes of jumping rope, and 60 minutes of weight training-- each week. Will you join me, or set similar goals for yourself? I will post updates on facebook and twitter with #202060 starting on Monday, May 2nd, so stay tuned! At the end of the month, when I achieve my goal, I will donate $100 to PKD Foundation in honor of my dear friend, Zari Ginsburg, and the entire Ginsburg family, for all they do to raise awareness and lend support to such a great organization.

I'm also thrilled to announce that I'm a new member of the Professional Development Board for the Weekly Fitness Challenge. Learn more about this amazing initiative to help  "Not Yet Fit" Americans get up off the couch and into more fit, more healthy bodies.
