Hello all,

Hope you had a fantastic holiday weekend. We went out to East Hampton for the first time since Thanksgiving, and though it poured on Saturday, the sun shone on Sunday and we had an active and enjoyable day filled with lots of walking and basketball. We had great quality family downtime with NO real plans--a rarity!--and I highly recommend it to everyone!

I'm very excited to share this week's ZIED GUIDE newsletter. Please read on for my interview, video, and other tips to keep you fit, healthy and happy. And don't forget to make it a great week!

Why You Should Curb Portions (But Not Your Enthusiasm) At Family Dinners (& A GREAT GIVEAWAY)

I had the pleasure of chatting with producer and author Laurie David (yes--she's Larry's Ex BUT has made a name for herself and then some) about her fabulous new book, The Family Dinner for Galtime. Check out highlights of my conversation with Laurie David. She also shared terrific recipes for Crispy Black Bean Cakes & Caramelized Sweet Potatoes with Quinoa and Greens from her new book The Family Dinner.

Laurie was kind enough to donate 2 autographed copies of The Family Dinner; you can enter for a chance to win by posting or retweeting the links shared above on Facebook or Twitter, and/or posting a comment on Galtime.

Walk A Marathon Update

On Friday, I finished week 3 of my Walk A Marathon Challenge with 26.6 miles logged. So far this week I've done 11.4 miles (14/8 to go!) For those of you who are new to The ZIED GUIDE newsletter, I had decided that for the month of April I would challenge myself--and my readers, twitter followers, and facebook friends to walk the distance of a marathon each week. For each mile I walk in April, I will donate at least $1 to Live Light, Live Right, an amazing childhood obesity prevention program based in Brooklyn, New York.

Having this goal has been great for me, personally, and I am thrilled to hear from some of you that it has motivated you to do more than your usual routine and walk more too.

If you'd like to virtually walk with me during this last week of my challenge, I'd love it! Be sure to count EACH AND EVERY STEP YOU TAKE that's at a pace of 3 miles an hour or more. Strap on that pedometer, listen to music (but be safe when you walk outside!), and count those steps (walking 20 blocks counts as one mile.)

I'll continue to post daily tweets about my progress--if you do the same, please remember to put #walkamarathon; hopefully together, we'll get and stay fit and motivate others to do the same!
