Greetings!
I'm excited to share with you some great news! My third book, Nutrition At Your Fingertips, just won a Merit Award in the 2010 National Health Information Awards. I'm thrilled and quite proud of my little penguin. Writing that book was a true labor of love, and I'm honored that the book is recognized in this way. I'm also happy to share some great tips and a chance to win a free copy of a brand new book that hits bookshelves today in a new ZIED GUIDE™ post. Read It Before You Eat It by Bonnie Taub-Dix, MA, RD, CDN is a must-have book that packs in everything you need to know to successfully navigate supermarket aisles and shelves. But wait, there's more! In this week's newsletter, you'll learn the must know numbers when it comes to your child's health from Parents.com. You'll learn about 6 foods you're not eating (but should be) from WebMD. You'll also find out if you should still eat eggs despite the recent large-scale egg recall from msnbc.com. If you love The ZIED GUIDE™ newsletter, PLEASE TELL A FRIEND. Then she'll (or he'll) tell two friends and so on and so on..... Enjoy the upcoming week, including any Labor Day festivities you have planned. And make sure to take time each and every day to fit in some enjoyable activities and to eat healthfully and mindfully. You only have one body, so take care of it! Best, Elisa |

Do you Read It Before You Eat It?
I recently spoke with my friend and colleague Bonnie Taub-Dix, MA, RD, CDN,
author of the new book Read It Before You Eat It (Plume)
that hits book store shelves today. Here are the highlights.... What
inspired you to write a book about food labels? Reading food labels is often confusing and
sometimes downright misleading. So many of my patients say "I wish I could
take you shopping with me," so I decided this was the best way to accomplish
this task! Not even one brand or manufacturer is mentioned within its over 250
pages, so my book allows consumers to be able to shop in any food store anywhere. What's the
biggest misconception people have when it comes to reading food labels? Although you
shouldn't feel like you need to be dietitian or mathematician to buy
food, or feel as though a supermarket is more like a library, a big problem is that so
many of us rush when we go food shopping. We don't take the time to read
labels and compare products. We spend more time buying shoes and clothes -
items that go ON our bodies instead of IN our bodies.....to read more of my interview with Bonnie and learn how to enter for the chance to win a free book (one lucky winner will be announced on September 7th, 2010), go to The ZIED GUIDE™.
