Discovery Museum

For over two decades, begun by the Junior League and Allied Arts Council, the Lied Discovery Children's Museum has served the children and families of Southern Nevada, providing a vibrant and engaging environment that sparks curiosity and inspires exploration. According to our guest speaker, Suzanne Hackett-Morgan, Director of Major Gifts, the next step is to take this museum From Now to WOW by creating a brand new, world-class, 21st century DISCOVERY Children's Museum, creating the pinnacle it is destined to be -- Nevada's premier informal educational resource. On November 16, 2010, the Museum broke ground in Symphony Park for the new Donald W. Reynolds Discovery Center adjacent to The Smith Center for the Performing Arts. The new building will be three stories tall and 58,000 square feet, almost twice the size of the existing museum, and is scheduled to open November 12, 2012. Check out their website at Discovery Museum and read more about this exciting new facility.

 2012 Rose Bowl Float update

Dear Fellow Rotarians and Visitors,

2011 Rotary Rose Parade Float Committee VideoThe Rotary Rose Parade Float Committee's 34th consecutive entry in the Tournament of Roses Parade proudly celebrates the work of Rotarians worldwide. The theme of the 2012 parade is "Just Imagine" and the theme of our float is "Inching Toward the End of Polio".

The float is not a project of Rotary International, and no Rotary International funds are used. Our ability to enter a float is dependent solely on the generosity of Rotarians. Traditionally, the Rotary International President attends the New Year's Day festivities, and this year we are honored to have President Kalyan Banerjee join us as we celebrate "Inching Toward the End of Polio."

January 2, 2012 will be the culmination of hundreds of volunteers who donated thousands of hours in preparing the floral decorations and subsequent application to our float. Rotarians work side-by-side with Rotaract and Interact members, family and friends. The entire float is painstakingly covered with flowers, seeds, husks, and other organic material. They share in the challenge and pride of accomplishment when the last petal is in place and the float comes alive.

The Rotary Rose Parade Float Committee appreciates the continued support from across the United States and Canada, and we look forward with a great sense of pride to this year's participation in the annual Tournament of Roses Parade. What better way to create Rotary awareness than by a floral message of hope seen worldwide by an estimated 300 million people from over 200 countries on one day... just imagine the first day of a new year full of hope and promise.

We thank you for your friendship, commitment and willingness to support the Rotary dream!

Yours in Rotary Service,

PDG Gene Hernandez

The Four Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do

1. Is it the TRUTH?

2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?

3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
