Dear  :

Pres Dulcinea

On Tuesday, July 19th, we will be joining our friends from the Las Vegas West Rotary Club at Canyon Gate Country Club. We are delighted to welcome District 5300 Governor, Doug Fowler and First Lady Deborah Fowler, District Governor Elect Dr. Sylvia Whitlock, Assistant Governor Robert Bridel and Assistant Governor Chris Calligan.

In last week's newsletter, I highlighted District Governor Doug's goals for his year as our leader. Doug has been an active member of the Rotary Club of Apple Valley since 1995. In his tenure with the Rotary Club of Apple Valley, he has filled many leadership roles, including Club President in 2000-2001. He was named Rotarian of the Year in 2000 and 2004. Doug has also spearheaded Apple Valley's co-sponsorship in matching grants to Mexico and Turkey.

Doug has participated in GSE for several years representing the High Desert Area as both a host family as well as on the planning committee. He was the GSE Team Leader for our District exchange in 2009 with RI District 2430 located in the Republic of Turkey. Additionally, Doug has served as District Awards Chair for 2008-2009, Executive Assistant Governor for Governor Charlie Barr, and Governor Chris Montan, and has served on the District Facilitation Committee. Doug has been served on the boards of various High Desert organizations for over 20 years.

He currently lives in Apple Valley with his Rotary Partner, Deborah, an elementary school teacher and past president of the Rotary Club of Victor Valley Sunrise. They celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary this past summer after meeting on a Caribbean Cruise in 1984. Son, Zachary is 23 years old and just recently completed his undergraduate work at UCLA. Daughter, Alisha is a 21 year old senior at UNLV. Both had the privilege of attending TLC and RYLA. Doug and Deborah are multiple Paul Harris Fellow. Zachary, and Alisha are Paul Harris Fellows.

Doug is extremely proud of his family, his 35 year career as a community banker, and is looking forward to working with the many committed Rotarians in District 5300.

Please join us this Tuesday for an enlightening and energetic presentation from our District Governor.

The museum is the largest and most notable collectRob McCoyion of 20th century signage on permanent display anywhere in the world  and is finally open to public. Affectionately referred to as the "Boneyard", the project was begun nearly 20 years ago on the original YESCO yard. During the last 3 years, visitors from all over the 50 states and 34 countries have, by appointment only, been given a peak at the museum's collection. BMW recently filmed a new commercial at the Boneyard. In addition Aladdin's Lampto housing original works from Caesers Palace, Binions Horsehoe, Golden Nugget, Silver Slipper and Stardust, the museum is also restoring "living" signs, which have been entrusted to the Museum should the signs ever be removed from service. Rob noted that "Las Vegas is the only city in the world that implodes its building and saves the signs".
