Dear  :

Linda pic
This Tuesday is my final meeting as your President.  I am looking forward to recapping all of our accomplisments with the most extraordinary men and women I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.  I am astounded by all that we accomplished this year.....one for the record books for sure.  Everyone, past and present, should be very proud of the road our Club has travelled.

The ribbon cutting at the new LV Fremont Rotary Reading Room inside the Agassi B&G Club was a fabulous ending to our year and provides a timeless gift - Literacy.

As we celebrate the ending of this year, it's very important to continue to keep our heads up, our hearts open, and our service on a constant path of growth.  It's not over, it's what's next?
.

With much love and gratitude,

Linda Bertuzzi,  President, LV Fremont Rotary Club

Last Week's Program & News

Michael Woodfield provided a terrific meeting team, with PP Roy York providing a moving inspirational moment.  President Linda recapped the 3 days at District Conference, culminating with "graduation" with honors for our Club.  Butch Benda introduced us to his dad, Dale Benda, from Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, and Marilene Nevins brought Phyllis Freeman of the Anti-Defamation League.  Thanks to Lane Kay and Butch Benda for sharing a little about themselves.   PP Mike Clayson (05-06) proclaimed, the "craft" talks are far more interesting that any before (and a little surprising).  The Club's "birthday hum", enhanced by noise maker clappers provided by Lane Kay, was bestowed upon Rob Goldstein (for a birthday we can't publish) and PP Roy.  William Fisher, PhD, was our guest speaker and shared his views on the current troubles facing our educational system in Nevada as it relates to the levels of spending on education vs. administration, and voiced his concerns that the school districts are no longer in the business of education.

Cross fines were abundant and included PP Mike fining Carla Smith for wearing the wrong sports team shirt, Carla countered that fine since Mike's family is the one who purchased the shirt for her and PP Laura Fitzpatrick to PP Paul Bell for another Texas Longhorn sporting milestone.  No winner of the big prize.  It's over $200 now - you have to play to win.

reading roomOn Wednesday we completed the dedication of the new LV Fremont Rotary Reading Room inside the Agassi B&G Club surrounded by an significant number of Rotarians, spouses, partners, children and friends, not the mention the great Agassi kids.  The room has been freshly painted, carpeted and furnishedribbon cutting with the tables and colorful chairs purchased by our Club through this year's fundraising efforts.  Bulletin boards will be updated by our Club throughout the seasons to share the story of Rotary and other things we feel are noteworthy and inspirational for the kids, plus a 30" Rotary Wheel is proudly displayed on the wall.  Special kids at tablesthanks to Las Vegas Author Deborah Coonts, District 5300 Matching Grants and everyone who made this project possible through donations of time and dollars.  Hundreds of new books collected throughout the year from our speaker's gifts and President Linda's annual holiday party/book drive will be lining the walls.  This will be a "quiet zone", as FOX Channel 5 referred to it, for the kids to escape into the world of reading, from the old classics to the newer, trendier stories they love today.  Congratulations Fremont Rotarians for giving the gift that will last for generations to come!

Agassi B&G Club Birthday Bash

     beads

An rousing fun time had by all who attended the June birthJune 11 bd bashday bash, captained by PP/PDG Roy York (95-96/09-10).  Many, many Rotarians and family members were on hand, along with a dozen excited Agassi Boys and Girls Club kids.  PP Roy demonstrated his magician's prowess with the youngsters, and the adults, and was smash hit!  The beads collected by Robin Smith & President Linda at the RI Conference were enjoyed by the kids, especially after they realized they were from NEW Orleans, Louisiana, not THE Orleans!
