I am pleased to announce that we have a new member proposal by Past President Roger Tabor (02-03) before the membership.  Please check your group e-mail for information.  Thank you Roger for continuing to build our Club!

I want to personally thank each of your for all your efforts in making our "Big Game" event such a huge success.  We doubled the funds raised over last year, with all proceeds going to our Foundation to further our Club's community service projects. With that behind us, we are now moving towards our 25th Anniversary party on March 18 which will be another huge fundraiser.  Please contact friends or businesses that you think would be interested in being a sponsor.  Past President Drew Levy (91-92) received our first sponsorship  last week.....let's keep asking.

Lastly, think of who you can invite to experience Rotary.  We have two events that will be perfect for a guest - Boys & Girls Club Birthday Bash this Wednesday and the Three Square event next Wednesday.

Wishing you and yours a lovely Valentine's Day and look forward to seeing each of you on Tuesday.

Linda Bertuzzi, President, LV Fremont Rotary Club

Fremont members - "ASK" someone to experience Rotary!  Don't keep us a secret.............

Last Week's Program & News

Tiger Todd, author, speaker and founder of the HERO School program gave a very energetic program on the how humans changeTiger Todd into what they learn and how our own life's lessons in the areas of family and work can be shared with others to improve their lives.  He has worked tirelessly to help the homeless and less fortunate learn to change their lives and become productive again in society.  Hero School is an educational philosophy and motivational model borne from 15 years of solution-oriented active research, synergistic collaboration, and real-time application and development. Hero School presentations, programs, and collaborative initiatives quickly engage audiences, while simultaneously stimulating human development and character change by drawing out that which is within. This revolutionary model has produced motivation and change with the widest range of individuals and organizations, from homeless adults to challenged youth, to educators, college students, employees, entrepreneurs and executives. The question is no longer, "Is change possible?", but rather,"Am I ready to initiate the change I want to see in the world?  If you would like to contact Tiger for further information, you can go to his website at HERO School

Thank you to Greg Clemens for pulling our meeting team together.  Carla Smith read a very inspirational piece by Maya Angelou and Lane Kay challenged the Club to sing Star Spangled Banner- better than Christina Aguilera did at the Super Bowl.  Asst. District Governor Patrick Carlton and Past President StolbergsRussell Swain, both of the Las Vegas Club, visited. Past President Scott Stolberg (07-08) and his wife, Sandy, were presented with a crystal plaque and diamond pins acknowledging their participation in District 5300's Bequest Society program.  Thank you Scott & Sandy for continuing to support Rotary with your participation in this program.  As Scott said after the ceremony, "The truth is, anyone can do this."  Presidential recognitions were given to Michael Woodfield, Robin Smith & President Elect Dulcinea Almazan for supporting Kendall Tenney's Run for a Wish event and, congratulations to Michael's son who came in second in his age group.  Robin Smith received recognition for her multiple wins on the "Big Game" Boards and, also, for selling the most squares.  Nice job, Robin!  Michael Clayson accepted the Steeler's defeat with grace during the cross-fines.  The ticket drawing failed, yet again, to give us a winner of the big prize.  Better luck next Tuesday.

Weekly Foundation Thought

This week's Rotary Foundation Thought highlights the cooperation between two Rotary Peace and Conflict Studies Program alumni.

Rotary Peace and Conflict Studies Program alumnus, Francis Kabosha is busy repatriating refugees in Zambia back to their homeland in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Through the repatriation process, Francis also educates the leaders of the repatriated groups in the ways of peace to help them build and maintain peace in their home areas. He recently called his fellow RPCS alumnus, Abdulai Jalloh, logistics officer for the United Nations in DRC, to say, "I'm giving them the tools to build peace, you must ensure they reach their destinations safely." Francis and Abdulai now work together to build peace in the region.

Keep in mind, every dollar that you contribute to The Rotary Foundation goes to actual program spending.

RI Pilot Programs

The RI Board of Directors has approved four areas as pilot projects tests beginning next year. Each club president and president-elect has received information from RI on application procedures and forms to apply for one of these pilot projects. Applications for project are due to RI by 1 April 2011. Clubs in District 5300 are encouraged to consider applying to pilot one of these ideas.

Associate Member Pilot: Allows an individual to become associated and acquainted with a Rotary club, its members, its programs and projects, and the expectations of club membership with the intent of becoming an active member within a designated period of time.

Corporate Member Pilot: Allows a corporation or company in the club's area to become a member of the Rotary club, with up to four designees as its representatives.

Satellite Club Pilot: Allows a Rotary club to conduct multiple club meetings during a week, each taking place at a different location, on a different day, and/or at a different time.

Innovative and Flexible Rotary Club Pilot: Allows clubs to self-determine their operations to fit better with the needs of their members and community. Clubs would be authorized to make changes to the Standard Rotary Club Constitution and to their Rotary Club Bylaws.
