Congratulations to President Elect Dulcinea Almazan and her incoming Board.  While we haven't completed this year, she has already begun planning her year will need each of you to step up and be a part of her vision for our Club.  I know the Club will continue on an incredible path with her leadership!

Congratulations to the BIG winners from the "Big Game" Boards.  Our own Robin Smith seemed to be the biggest winner, and Centennial Colorado President Randy Pote was right behind her.  A BIG event for our Club's Foundation.  Thank you to all who helped with the sales.

Membership should be something you consider each time you think of Rotary.  Please remember to ASK a like-minded individual to join us for lunch, learn about our members and the role that Rotary plays not only in our community, but globally.  Remember your Rotary experience and share it with others.  The upcoming Birthday Bash and Three Square are two perfect opportunities to introduce someone to Rotary.

Linda Bertuzzi, President, LV Fremont Rotary Club

Fremont members - "ASK" someone to experience Rotary!  Don't keep us a secret.............

Last Week's Program & News

Hesham Elnagar believes in connections.  An Ambassadorial Scholar sponsored by the Green ValleyHesham Elnagar Rotary Club, he studied at Canterbury University in New Zealand as he toured the Country talking to Rotary Clubs along the way.  Hesham has a strong passion for music and photography, and had previously visited New Zealand with a school choir.  He aim as Rotary's Ambassadorial Scholar was to be the ambassador of goodwill, getting outside of his comfort zone and engaging in lifelong learning.  He identified the four key elements of his visit - Friendship, Trust, Honesty & Hope.  Very similar to the Four-Way test.  Hesham can be reached at [email protected].

Past Presidents Allen Puliz (04-05 & 06-07) and Roy York ((95-96 & 09-10)were both in attendance last week, returning after hip surgeries.  Welcome back to both of you.  Ken Swanson gave a fun presentation on the celebration of Ground Hog Day, including a song.  Project Chair Rob Goldstein reminded the Club of February 16 Birthday Bash, captained by February Birthday Carla Smith, and the February 23 food packing event at Three Square.  We have committed to 15 volunteers and please remember to bring food items previously sent to each member for donation to the program.  Lane Kay presented the Club with a special award from JDRF for our Club's participation in the recent Walk.  Past President Allen Puliz (04-05) & (06-07) reminded members of the Friday (2/4) deadline for RYLA applications.   Past President Roger Tabor (02-03) gave update on the upcoming Mayor's Cup International Soccer Tournament - over 10,000 kids will be arriving from all over the world to play in the largest soccer tournament of it's kind.  President Elect Dulcinea Almazan passed out sponsorship information for our upcoming 25th Anniversary Party on Frement Street.  Membership Chair Robin Smith will be including our Club's spouses in our Anniversary Party planning.  Please contact Past Presidents Jim Main (87-88) and Drew Levy (91-92) if you are interested in more information about sponsorship.  Thank you to Carla Smith for pulling together the meeting team.  Visitors included Past President Russell Swain of the LV Club, and return visitor Butch Benda of Sonic Burgers, guest of Past President Roger Tabor (02-03).  Carla Smith received  a rousing birthday "hum" for her Feb 4th birthday; Ken Swanson was cross-fiined for his Ground Hog Day presentation, Past President Al Guida (94-95) presented Past President's Allen Puliz & Roy York with "cane taxes".  No one has won the big prize....odds continue to improve.

Weekly Foundation Thought

This week's Rotary Foundation Thought is about becoming a Bequest Society member and leaving your legacy through The Rotary Foundation.

This is best expressed through a quote from the founder of The Rotary Foundation and Past RI President, Arch C. Klumph  -

"There are tens of thousands of Rotarians who will look upon this opportunity (building the Rotary Foundation as a real privilege)...Then there are other men who are seeking ways and means of leaving some part of their wealth where it may do the greatest good for humanity. What better equipped organization or institution than Rotary International can be found to be entrusted with such funds?"

Join with fellow Rotarians past and present who have left their legacy by remembering the foundation in their estate plans.

RI Pilot Programs

The RI Board of Directors has approved four areas as pilot projects tests beginning next year. Each club president and president-elect has received information from RI on application procedures and forms to apply for one of these pilot projects. Applications for project are due to RI by 1 April 2011. Clubs in District 5300 are encouraged to consider applying to pilot one of these ideas.

Associate Member Pilot: Allows an individual to become associated and acquainted with a Rotary club, its members, its programs and projects, and the expectations of club membership with the intent of becoming an active member within a designated period of time.

Corporate Member Pilot: Allows a corporation or company in the club's area to become a member of the Rotary club, with up to four designees as its representatives.

Satellite Club Pilot: Allows a Rotary club to conduct multiple club meetings during a week, each taking place at a different location, on a different day, and/or at a different time.

Innovative and Flexible Rotary Club Pilot: Allows clubs to self-determine their operations to fit better with the needs of their members and community. Clubs would be authorized to make changes to the Standard Rotary Club Constitution and to their Rotary Club Bylaws.
