Dear  :

I hope everyone brought in the 2010 New Year exactly the way they wanted.  As with every New Year, I always approach it with a sense of hope for the future.  The economic news seems, and I use the term "seems" with trepidation, to have started heading in the right direction.  Let's hope so.

Our Rotary year will start off with a bang for me.  I have the upcoming President's advance the weekend of the 8th, followed by chairing the District Governor Nomination Committee meeting the next weekend.  By the 17th of January, we will know who our DG will be for 2012-2013 and I am proud to be a part of this process.

At our Club level, it's time to review the past year and be proud of our many accomplishments.  Three new members, another satisfying Booker Thanksgiving, a very successful Holiday wreath drive, and the Birthday Bashes for our newly adopted Agassi Boys and Girls Club, two successful grants for our expenses at  Booker and Easters Seals, along so many other remarkable events that make our Club so great.  We have some exciting events coming up with one of the most important being the Super Bowl Fundraiser, followed by the completion of the fence around the Easter Seals sanctuary built with our Club's own hands, along with the new benches and stepping stones.  We will need everyone's support to make these successful.  Let's all rededicate ourselves this new year to making our Club better and stronger.

The Christmas Gift

On Wednesday. December 23rd, our Club, along with the West Club, granted a Christmas wish for a very deserving 8th grader from the Agassi College Prep School.  At a recent joint meeting at Canyon Gate with our sister Club we were introduced to some outstanding students from Agassi and West Prep who had just completed a teen leadership event.  The last student tugged particularly at the heartstrings of several of our own Club's members, with his humility, smile and sincerity.

The Counselor from Agassi, Mrs. Donohue, had learned jjust a day or two before the meeting that the student's Mom's identity had been breached and not only were bank accounts wiped out, they were taken to a severe negative.  Mrs. Donohue spoke to Lynn Price, TLC Chair, about Santa Clothes and also mentioned that he wanted a bed for Christmas.  Well, it took absolutely no time before both our Clubs were involved in granting his wish.  Thanks to very generous personal donations from members from both Clubs, gift certificates from Walmart and JC Penneys were presented to the mom totaling nearly $800, along with new bedding and pillows.

The bed, well it took on a life of it's own.  Because Penneys is so supportive of Santa Clothes, we contacted them for the new bed.  In their continuing generosity, they donated the mattress for the bed.  Allen Puliz generously donated the truck and we arrived in style at the family's home.  When we brought the student outside,  he, and everyone in attendance, was brought to tears.  His mom had told us that she had been totally hopeless, and while working 7 days a week to raise the funds that were taken, Christmas was not even in the picture.  On the Sunday before, her son had decorated theirbed donation modest apartment for Christmas while she was at work - and told her she needed to have faith and believe.  Little did either of them know...................

Thanks Rotarians.  Sometimes it is, indeed, the simplest things that fill our life with so much joy and purpose.

2010-2011 Slate of Officers
We are finalizing the 2010-2011 Board.  We will be talking to each of you about your role during Lady in Waiting Linda's year.  Please ask yourself what you can contribute to the Club, both in time and experience.  Be willing to serve our Club and members.

 Super Bowl Fundraiser
Hello and Happy New Year Fremont Rotarians!  Great success with the Holiday Wreath fundraiser - our amazing Club raised more than our $ 2,500 goal - and we're racing ahead to the next project.  This one's quick and easy:  Two Superbowl Squares boards - one @ $ 20 and one @ $ 40 per square.  Getting the boards printed ASAP so we can ask other clubs, co-workers, etc. to participate.  Payouts are $ 250 and $ 500 per quarter.  Greg Clemens will send an email with simple instructions so we can all help fill appx. 10 squares each.

And a note.....Past President Laura told us The "I Have a Dream" Foundation-Las Vegas (IHAD-LV) is in need of donations to help them pay for immediate upgrades to their Dreamer Station.  According to IHAD-LV, failure to raise sufficient funds and make these upgrades immediately will result in the Dreamer Station having to close.

As she mentioned at the meeting on Tuesday (Jan 5), our club has supported IHAD-LV in the past by contributing the proceeds from one of our golf outings to the organization.  If you would like to help IHAD-LV in this effort, please go to this link
