Recent events and activities

Connect Streets

Planter

The first phase of the project is now underway and the Bath Road will soon see new and renovated bins, lamposts and seating. The new planters will be going in at the end of August to tie in with the county council's road safety work on the Norwood road island. We had hoped to be able to have three of the agreed planters on the island, but due to the location of the underground services we have only been able to fit in two.

The new BARTA design team has come up with a great set of ideas for branding the Bath Road, which we hope to be able to share soon on the website. We will then start phase two of the project, which will include planting, boundary signage, cycle racks and even a new Bath Road clock! You can keep in touch with what is going on via the website  www.connectmystreet.org

Meet and Eat - Monday June 18th

Following the success of our first "Meet and Eat", we held a second at The Tivoli in Andover Road, where 21 people enjoyed an excellent meal. There will  be another event soon - keep an eye on our website for more details.

A Good Week

We joined in with the Good Week website www.agoodweek.com from 18th to 24th June, sharing daily  thoughts, ideas and video clips with Cheltenham Connect members to celebrate all the good things that happen in the world. Hopefully the Olympics has kept all the good vibes going!

Wine tasting - Thursday July 5th

Our first wine tasting event at the Brown Jug was attended by 31 people, many of them new to Cheltenham Connect. With Sam Redfern's expertise and a cheese platter to complement the wine, a good time was had by all.

Skillspace Networking Meeting - Tuesday July 10th

Attendees enjoyed tasting the seasonal products bought along by local chef Sam Redfern, from local vegetables and kipper pate to strawberry fool.

Green Group Visioning Evening
The Exmouth Arms, 7pm, Monday 27th August

A lot has changed since we set up our original Green Group and we have increasingly been partnering with Vision 21 and Transition Town Cheltenham in order to co-promote green activities. This meeting is for anyone who is already a member of our Green Group, or would like to become a member, in order to look at how best we can encourage people in our local area to become more involved. We are also looking for a new co-ordinator (or two people who might like to share the role).

Late autumn/winter events
Looking further into the future we're planning another Swishing (clothes swapping) event and maybe a Murder Mystery Evening. If you're interested in attending and/or helping organise these events (or have any ideas of your own) please email vanessa@cheltenhamconnect.co.uk

Christmas Craft Fair
mas1
We're currently in final discussions with the Bath Road Market about moving the Christmas Craft Fair there for the weekend of 8th - 9th December. As the site will not be as large as normal the number of stalls will be limited and we will therefore give priority to people who want 2 full days. We will also need to look more carefully at the mix of crafts that are on offer. If you would like an application form please email scarlett@cheltenhamconnect.co.uk

Public consultation on NHS services in Gloucestershire

11 July - 2 October

NHS Gloucestershire is running a public consultation on how it will provide services in the future. There are 2 options:

  1. The formation of a new NHS Trust - this is the preferred option of the NHS staff involved.
  2. Put the services out to tender. Expressions of interest have been sought and 24 organisations have formally confirmed their interest in providing these services. These include private healthcare companies, charities, other trusts and community interest companies.

To find out more and have your say, visit the consultation website and fill in the feedback form.

Cheltenham Connect is run entirely by local volunteers who really care about their community.

It's all about People Power!
