Final Five Senior Design Presentations
Tuesday, May 22

Senior Design is the capstone experience for all Computer Science and Software Engineering majors in senior year. Student teams create a project developed by CS faculty or external stakeholders and present the final product at the end of spring term. The final five teams--MathDash, VisAssist, Astraeus, Hephaestus, and Uniconf--will face-off for the chance to enter the College of Engineering's competition held Wednesday, June 6. All students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend the final presentations. To view this year's projects, click here

Professional Attire: From Campus Casual to Co-op Chic
Wednesday, May 23

North Hall Multipurpose Room (33rd and Race Streets)

The Steinbright Career Development Center, the Residential Living Office, and Phi Mu will host Professional Attire - from Campus Casual to Co-op Chic. Representatives from Banana Republic will present ideas for making every day attire appropriate for a business casual office environment. Undergraduate Technical Writing Workshop

This workshop provides concrete strategies for writing successful documents as a beginning student in engineering. Particular attention will be paid to constructing documents that are carefully-supported, well-designed, and written to reach an audience of experienced engineers. Drexel Game Developers Group (DGDG) welcomes guest speaker Matt Brenner, president of the International Game Developers Association (IGDA) Philly Chapter. The IGDA is a prestigious organization devoted to the betterment of the video game community. Matt has been working in the games industry for many years now and has met with many industry leaders. Join DGDG this week as Matt comes to talk about the IGDA, how to start your career in the game industry, plus how you can make yourself desirable to prospective employers 

Interviews: Beyond the One-on-One

Employers today utilize many different interview styles beyond the one-on-one format. The Steinbright Career Development Center will present a workshop on common alternative interview styles such as phone, panel and group interviews. Tips for conducting successful interviews will also be covered. Registration for this event is not required but to RSVP or for more information, please call the Steinbright Career Development Center at 215-895-2185. 

DGDG: Idea Jam

The annual 2012 Philly Game Jam is coming up June 17 -- time to get your teams together! In order to get everyone prepared for the Philly Game Jam, Drexel Game Developers Group (DGDG) is hosting another Idea Jam. Don't let your team walk into the Game Jam un-prepared, practice your design skills to rapidly design games to match a given theme that your team can build in less than 48 hours. If you're not planning to attend the Philly Game Jam, you can still get the experience of rapidly designing a game within limitations without the 48 hours straight of arduous work.

WiCS Panel Discussion and Dinner

All students (male and female) are invited to join Drexel's Women in Computing Society (WiCS) for a special Alumni Panel and Dinner. WiCS, in conjunction with the Math and Computing Society (MCS), Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE),The iSchool at Drexel, and the Department of Computer Science, has gathered a group of Drexel computing and technology alumni to share information about careers, academics, and beyond. Panelists will speak with students about their experiences in the computing and technology workforce, answer questions about career and educational experiences, and provide advice and tips about academics, job searches, interviews, and more. Random Hacks of Kindness Philly
Saturday and Sunday, June 2-3

Random Hacks of Kindness (RHoK) is the brainchild of a dedicated team from Google, Microsoft, Yahoo!, NASA and The World Bank that organizes "hackathon"- marathon hacking events in multiple global locations bringing together developers from all over to hack on real-world problems. In each hachathon, participants work on various problem set for two days and are awarded for their amazing work by the RHoK panel. Drexel is once again hosting the Philadelphia-area RHoK hackathon. Graduation Information

The CoE Ceremony is Friday, June 15 at 9:30 a.m. Students will be asked to be there between 8-8:30 a.m. There will also be a CoE Reception immediately following the ceremony.

Cap and gowns can be purchased at the University Bookstore between May 22 and June 8 (bring your student ID). Tickets are available for pick-up with your cap and gown. Each graduate will receive four tickets for guests. Additional tickets may be available. The University will email further information around June 6. Diplomas will be mailed to current mailing addresses 6-8 weeks after commencement. If your address needs to be changed, submit the changes via DrexelOne. Summer registration opened up May 7, 2012; however, depending on your classification, you may have a different registration date than other students. Your specific date will be listed below:

  • Pre-Juniors - May 22
  • Sophomores - May 25
  • Freshman - May 30 

Note: Students on co-op cannot be added to classes until the week before the term starts. You must fill out a "Classes During Co-op" form, get it signed by your co-op coordinator and then submit it to your advisor to be processed.  Feel free to contact your assigned advisor if you need any help registering or working out a plan of study. For additional advising information, click here.

DGDG Gaming Hoodies for Sale
Drexel Game Developers Group (DGDG) is having a fundraiser! Help raise awareness of DGDG and show of your inner geek with Drexel Game Developers Group zip-up hoodies! They come in sizes SM to XL, featuring the name on the front and the newest DGDG logo on the back, both designed by our good friend and previous DGDG officer Kevin Sheehan. Due to confusing budget issues, we NEED to sell all our hoodies at barely above cost at $45 per hoodie. You can see what the hoodies look like by talking to one of your friends who has already bought one or attended a DGDG meeting, or see the image mock-up here. If you're interested in buying a hoodie or even just seeing the hoodies or trying one on, send an email to GameDev@drexel.edu with the word "Hoodie" somewhere in the subject line. 
Need help with classes? Visit the Cyber Learning Center
The Cyber Learning Center (CLC) provides consulting and other learning resources for students taking computer science classes. It's staffed by graduate and undergraduate students employed by the CS Department. Students can receive help during office hours (drop-in or by appointment). Services include review sessions for exams, small group study sessions, homework/lab help, and a mini-library. 
Hours 
  • Mondays - Wednesdays: 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Thursdays: 1 to 5 p.m.
  • Friday: CLOSED
The hours for CS 121 and 122 are held on the odd weeks of the term, beginning on week 3 (weeks 3, 5, 7, and 9).

Drexel Farmers Market

Tuesdays from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The Drexel Farmers Market is now in its fourth year, Drexel Business Services is proud to feature the weekly offering of fresh vegetables and fruit to the campus community. Due to the construction on Chestnut Square, the Farmers Market will be located at 33rd and Market Streets at the Dragon Statue. The market provides the Drexel community with the opportunity to purchase fresh and locally grown food from King's Dutch Country Goods. A variety of fruits, vegetables, baked goods, canned and preserved fruits and vegetables, cheeses as well as yogurt are offered.
