Senior Design Final Four Competition

Senior Design is the capstone experience for all Computer Science and Software Engineering majors in senior year. Student teams create a project developed by CS faculty or external stakeholders and present the final product at the end of spring term. The final four teams (DistroWhale, GPUnit, Ahoy, and a combo team of Stylo/Anonymouth) will face-off for the chance to enter College of Engineering's competition, held June 3 at 9 a.m. in Mitchell Auditorium, Bossone. DGDG: Elections and Game Critique

The Drexel Game Developers Group (DGDG) will be holding elections for the new officers! This should only take a few minutes at the beginning of the meeting, and it will be VITAL to keeping DGDG running. If you are interested in an officer role, please contact Keith Ayers at GameDev@drexel.edu. Also, we'll be having game critiques/betas! Bring in all the games you've been working on, finished or otherwise, and we'll be glad to offer hints for the game, beta test games, provide suggestions (if that's what you want), and help out as best we can for your final projects due soon. So come in and network, play some games, give some feedback, and enjoy yourself.
MCS: Board Game Night

Drexel's Math and Computer Science Society (MCS) is hosting a board game night. Games that will be provided are Settlers of Catan and Last Night on Earth. Feel free to bring your own board games but be aware that we only have the room reserved for one hour. It is beneficial, but not required, that you read up on the rules of the games that you want to play before showing up. Be prepared to socialize and have fun! Upsilon Pi Epsilon Elections and Ice Cream Social

CoE Senior Design Competition
Thursday, June 2
9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Mitchell Auditorium, Bossone Research Center
Eight senior design groups will be chosen as representing the best senior design work by their respective departments. The groups will be present to a panel of outside judges. Following the presentations, an award ceremony will be held. The students will be sharing $5,000 in prize money for making it to this level in Senior Design. Please come out to cheer on your fellow students. The event schedule and groups who will presenting at this event will be posted shortly. The Drexel University Chapter of WiCS, in conjunction with The iSchool at Drexel and the Department of Computer Science, has gathered a group of Drexel computing and technology alumni to share with students information about careers, academics, and beyond. Panelists will speak with students about their experiences in the computing and technology workforce, answer questions about career and educational experiences, and provide advice and tips about academics (such as recommended classes), job searches, interviews, and more. Random Hacks of Kindness Hack-a-thon
Saturday and Sunday, June 4-5

Random Hacks of Kindness (RHoK) is the brainchild of a dedicated team from Google, Microsoft, Yahoo!, NASA and The World Bank that organizes "hackathon"- marathon hacking events in multiple global locations bringing together developers from all over to hack on real-world problems. In each hachathon, participants work on various problem set for two days and are awarded for their amazing work by the RHoK panel. This year, Drexel is hosting the Philadelphia-area RHoK hackathon. This is a wonderful opportunity for a programmer/designer to contribute to solve a global challenge. Click here to register for the hackathon.
Discovery Day for Inventors

National Constitution Center (525 Arch St, Philadelphia)
Lenfest Media Group, a direct response marketing firm, will welcome inventors to the National Constitution Center for Discovery Day as part of an international search for the next consumer product. Inventors can submit product ideas to Lenfest Media at the Discovery Day website. Lenfest Media representatives will review submissions and invite select inventors to Philadelphia to present their product to a panel of direct response and product development experts. If you have not registered yet, please do so as soon as possible.  Many of our upper level CS courses are in danger of being canceled due to low enrollment. Below is a list of CS electives for the Summer (not all of these courses are in danger of being canceled).

-CS 370 Operating Systems - TR 3:30-4:50 (prereq: CS 283 or CS 361)
-CS 461 Database Systems - M 6-8:50 (prereq: CS 260)
-CS 485 Evolutionary Computing - TR 2:00-3:20 (CS 260 & CS 380)
-MATH 301 Numerical Analysis II - TR 11:00-12:20 (prereq MATH 300)

For those students that already took CS 282, you can take CS 283 Systems Programming (prereq: CS 265) and we'll count CS 283 as your required course and CS 282 as an elective. CS 283 is offered TR 11:00-12:20.
The prerequisites for CS 338 and CS 370 are being changed to what's listed above so please contact your advisor if you need help registering.
CS students only -  Remember that CS 451 is needed as a prerequisite for senior design so you must take that this Summer (if you haven't already) to take CS 491 in the Fall.  Senior design is only offered once a year starting in the Fall. If you do not take the proper prerequisites, your graduation will be delayed a year.

CoE Peer Mentors Needed 
The College of Engineering Peer Mentor Applications are now open for the 2011-2012 academic year. The College of Engineering Peer Mentor Program is designed to help incoming and current undergraduate engineering students by providing them with a peer mentor to offer resources, support and information. Research Study Participants Needed 
The Drexel Game Developers Group (DGDG) has returned from GDC 2011 in San Francisco and needs your help to make game development at Drexel better! Please take a minute to complete a short survey about game development at Drexel so DGDG knows what to improve in meetings and for events and activities.
