Mongo Philly is a one-day conference dedicated to MongoDB, the leading open source, non-relational database. The conference will feature sessions on schema design, indexing, administration, replication, sharding, and more. The event is sponsored by 10gen, the company that develops and supports the database. DGDG Meeting: Gaming Hack-a-thon

Drexel Game Developers Group (DGDG) will be having a game hack! Upper classmen will be working on their own games, either for class or their own projects. New students are encouraged to come in and see how it's done with their laptops and open minds to design and develop games. Experienced students are encouraged to drop by and work on their projects with plenty of beta testers and designers abound. Anyone can come and assist in game development or get assisted. This is the time to learn and get plenty of help! Everyone wins, plus FREE PIZZA! Come on by and have a Drexel Game Dev hack-a-thon! Learn more about DGDG here.
Computer & Cognitive Science Symposium

Drexel students, faculty and staff are invited to the Computer & Cognitive Science Symposium, which will celebrate the ideas and contributions of Dr. John Anderson in the fields of cognitive science, computer science, and education. The symposium is held in conjunction with The Franklin Institute Awards ceremony where Dr. Anderson is the recipient of the Benjamin Franklin Medal in Computer and Cognitive Science. Click here for more information about the day and guest speakers. A light lunch will be provided.

He will be presenting an informational talk about why it is important as a computer science major to take certain Management Information Systems courses. Business intelligence refers to technological ways of identifying, extracting, and analyzing business data. To learn more about MCS, click here.

All CS students should declare their two tracks by pre-junior/junior year. We currently have 10 track options:

To officially declare your track (and have it on your transcript), you will need to fill out a change of curriculum form. Since there is no financial change, you will only need the advisor's signature before you drop it off to SRC (Main 222) to be processed. For more information about each track, click here. The Drexel Game Developers Group (DGDG) has returned from GDC 2011 in San Francisco and needs your help to make game development at Drexel better! Please take a minute to complete a short survey about game development at Drexel so DGDG knows what to improve in meetings and for events and activities. Drexel University Computing Academy (DUCA) Accepting Applications
Deadline: May 1, 2011
Drexel University Computing Academy (DUCA) is an exciting summer opportunity for high school students interested in the field of computing. If you know any high school sophomores or juniors who are interested in computing, please send them here to learn more about the program and to apply. DUCA is a five-week, residential learning experience at Drexel University in Philadelphia. At DUCA, students are exposed to all computing majors that Drexel has to offer through hands-on classes and labs taught by Drexel faculty. Students will learn about video game design, mobile app development, information technology, programming, computer security, robotics and much more. Students live on-campus for a true college experience. This program is open to current high school sophomores and juniors. Students who successfully complete DUCA and subsequently enroll at Drexel University will receive a $3,000 renewable scholarship. DUCA will run from June 26-July 30, 2011. PSPE Reading Chapter Engineering Scholarship
Deadline: May 27, 2011
The Reading Chapter of Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers will be awarding a $2,000 scholarship for 2011-2012. The Scholarship is a one time only grant to be provided to an undergraduate engineering student who will be enrolled in the first semester of their second last or final year in the fall of 2011. Academic success, character, personal merit, commitment plus school and community involvements will be the basis for the award.
