Philadelphia Ruby Group Meeting

Drexel's Math and Computer Science Society (MCS) is hosting a monthly Philadelphia Ruby User Group meeting. Come out and meet with professional Ruby users and web developers from the Philadelphia area. Interact with working web developers and see presentations on web development technologies, techniques and more! This month's meeting involves an hour of networking followed by an hour presentation from 10gen about MongoDB. Drexel's Math and Computer Science Society (MCS) is hosting a presentation from the regional FBI Forensics office about digital forensics. Digital forensics is a branch of forensics, which deals specifically with the investigation and recovery of information from digital devices. This field of forensics includes everything from cryptography to the process of copying hard drives.To learn more about MCS, click here.

Computer & Cognitive Science Symposium

Drexel students, faculty and staff are invited to the Computer & Cognitive Science Symposium, which will celebrate the ideas and contributions of Dr. John Anderson in the fields of cognitive science, computer science, and education. The symposium is held in conjunction with The Franklin Institute Awards ceremony where Dr. Anderson is the recipient of the Benjamin Franklin Medal in Computer and Cognitive Science. Click here for more information about the day and guest speakers. A light lunch will be provided.

Track Declarations
All CS students should declare their two tracks by pre-junior year. We currently have 10 track options:

To officially declare your track (and have it on your transcript), you will need to fill out a change of curriculum form. The Drexel Game Developers Group (DGDG) has returned from GDC 2011 in San Francisco and needs your help to make game development at Drexel better! Co-op Awards Employer Nominations
Show appreciation for a co-op employer's time and dedication by nominating that company for the Steinbright Career Development Center's "Employer of the Year Award." Volunteers Needed for Sea Perch Challenge

The College of Engineering is looking for volunteers to help out at the 2011 Greater Philadelphia Sea Perch Challenge. More than 40 middle and high school underwater robotics teams will compete for first place and a chance to enter the 2011 Sea Perch Nationals Competition.
Volunteers are needed for the morning (7 a.m.-noon), the afternoon (11 a.m.-4 p.m.) or all day. Each volunteer will receive a t-shirt and breakfast and/or lunch. Volunteer duties may include:
  • Registering teams
  • Helping with dysfunctional robots
  • Meeting and greeting the judges
  • Assisting the judges and the entertainment (including Mario the dragon)

Drexel University Computing Academy (DUCA) Accepting Applications
Deadline: May 1, 2011
Drexel University Computing Academy (DUCA) is an exciting summer opportunity for high school students interested in the field of computing. If you know any high school sophomores or juniors who are interested in computing, please send them here to learn more about the program and to apply. DUCA is a five-week, residential learning experience at Drexel University in Philadelphia. At DUCA, students are exposed to all computing majors that Drexel has to offer through hands-on classes and labs taught by Drexel faculty. Students will learn about video game design, mobile app development, information technology, programming, computer security, robotics and much more. Students live on-campus for a true college experience. This program is open to current high school sophomores and juniors. Students who successfully complete DUCA and subsequently enroll at Drexel University will receive a $3,000 renewable scholarship. DUCA will run from June 26-July 30, 2011. PSPE Reading Chapter Engineering Scholarship
Deadline: May 27, 2011
The Reading Chapter of Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers will be awarding a $2,000 scholarship for 2011-2012. The Scholarship is a one time only grant to be provided to an undergraduate engineering student who will be enrolled in the first semester of their second last or final year in the fall of 2011. Academic success, character, personal merit, commitment plus school and community involvements will be the basis for the award.
