SCDC Mock Interviews
Monday, January 10

In preparation for A-round on-campus co-op interviews and for students searching for internships and full-time positions, the Steinbright Career Development Center (SCDC) will host individual "Mock Interviews" today. Students are invited to brush up on their interview skills and receive immediate feedback. To schedule a 30-minute slot, call 215-895-2185.

Society for Women Engineers Meeting

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) will host its general body meeting tonight. This meeting will focus on upcoming events for the term, as well as going over the election process for the upcoming officer elections. Students that are interested in becoming an officer or want to become more involved in SWE should attend the meeting. Drexel Game Developers Group Meeting

Drexel Game Developers Group (DGDG) welcomes Kent Pasquino, who will present his unique game concept for the annual International Game Festival (IGF), a prestigious game-making competition. An open-ended discussion about the game concept and the IGF will follow the presentation.
Also, DGDG has a special announcement regarding the Game Development Conference (GDC). The GDC is THE #1 game developer's conference where almost all the big-name game developers attend every year. Visit DGDG's website for more information.
"Planning Life After Drexel" and Career Service Orientations

The Career Services office at the Steinbright Career Development Center (SCDC) will host "Planning Life After Drexel" and Career Service Orientations to assist students with their job search and career planning. Each session lasts about an hour. Additionally, SCDC sponsors a robust recruiting program in which hundreds of employers post jobs and conduct interviews both on and off campus. Any graduating student or student with senior status wishing to participate in the Recruiting Program is strongly encouraged to attend a Career Services Orientation Session.

These sessions provide an overview of the on-campus recruiting and interviewing process, as well as explanation of resources available (including Dragon Jobs) as students prepare for jobs after graduation and a productive and rewarding post-college life.

Women in Computing Society Epic Career Session

Drexel's Women in Computing Society (WiCS) invites all students to learn about Epic Systems Corporation, located in Madison, Wisc. The comany creates software for the healthcare industry and is hiring for many positions. Epic hires all majors, all degrees, all experience levels, and requires no software experience. The session will include an overview of Epic's industry work, corporate philosophy and role-specific expectations. 3rd Annual Jay Modi Memorial Lecture & Reception

The Department of Computer Science invites all students, faculty and staff to the 3rd Annual Jay Modi Memorial Lecture & Reception. This year's distinguished speaker is Dr. Sven Koenig, associate professor in the Computer Science Department at the University of California. Dr. Koenig will present examples from his research explaining how to construct better intelligent systems. Also, a CS Ph.D. student will be honored with the Jay Modi Memorial Award in recognition of academic excellence and the potential to become a leader in the field.
Pragnesh Jay Modi (1975-2007) joined the Computer Science Department at Drexel University as an Assistant Professor in 2005. Professor Modi was an outstanding teacher and a rising star in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) community. Visit the Modi Lecture homepage for additional information about the event. Digital Games: Teaching, Learning and Assessment Seminar Series

The Drexel's School of Education will launch its second seminar in the four-part "Digital Games: Teaching, Learning and Assessment Seminar Series" with Dr. Punya Mishra, a professor at Michigan State University. The topic for this event is "Using TPACK for Game Assessment and Design." The seminar will focus on using Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework, its multi-dimensional use, how it works in a framework, how it may be used in assessments for games and virtural worlds for learning and the implications of TPACK for teacher education and the use of games. Deadline for Winter Term Course Adjustments
The deadline to add/drop a course on DrexelOne is this Sunday (January 16) at 11 p.m. If you need academic advising assistance, you must contact us no later than 4 p.m. this Friday (January 14).
Note: Dropping a course will result in all evidence of it being removed from the student's transcript. Approval of the instructor is not required for students to drop a course.

IEEE Simulator Design Competition  

Registration Deadline is January 18, 2011

IEEE Computer Society is presenting the 2011 Simulator Design competition for students worldwide with a top prize of 8,000 USD and a second place prize of 2,000 USD. Student teams will be invited to design a CPU simulator, a program used in many architecture courses to illustrate how computers work.

 This year's panel of international judges, chosen by IEEE Computer Society, includes Bob Colwell, one of the world's leading experts on computer design and Intel's former chief architect on the Pentium 4 processor. Need help with classes? Visit the Cyber Learning Center
CLC imageThe Cyber Learning Center (CLC) provides consulting and other learning resources for students taking computer science classes. It's staffed by graduate and undergraduate students employed by the CS Department. Students can receive help during office hours (drop-in or by appointment). Services include review sessions for exams, small group study sessions, homework/lab help, and a mini-library.
Hours: Monday 1-8 p.m., Tuesday 1-9 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday 1-6 p.m. For the CS 121 and 122 courses, office hours only on weeks 3, 5, 7 and 9, as follows: Monday 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Tuesday-Friday 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
