Welcome to the first Department of Computer Science e-newsletter! This new bi-weekly newsletter will list all upcoming CS events and announcements every other Monday. We hope this new form of notification will lead to fewer emails in your inbox and also provide information that you may not have known about the department.

The CS Department is hosting The Theoretical Computer Science Symposium, featuring Dr. Shafrira Goldwasser, recipient of The 2010 Benjamin Franklin Medal in Computer and Cognitive Science. This symposium celebrates key ideas in theoretical computer science and their application to cryptography. Guest speakers include Silvio Micali (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and Avi Wigderso (Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton). This event is free and open to the public. Senior Design image
Senior Design is the capstone experience for all Computer Science and Software Engineering majors in senior year. Student teams create a project developed by CS faculty or external stakeholders and present the final product at the end of spring term. All students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend the final presentations. To view this year's projects, click here. The final four teams will compete Tuesday, May 25 for the chance to enter College of Engineering's final competition.
Koerner Family Fellowship Symposium

The Koerner Family Fellowship provides support to outstanding doctoral students in the College of Engineering. The fellowship was established through the generosity of Professor Robert M. Koerner ('56 & '63) and his family. Students working in the CLC
CLC image
The Cyber Learning Center (CLC) provides consulting and other learning resources for students taking computer science classes. It's staffed by graduate and undergraduate students employed by the CS Department. Students can receive help during office hours (drop-in or by appointment). Services include review sessions for exams, small group study sessions, homework/lab help, and a mini-library.
Hours: Mon.-Thurs. 12 to 6 p.m.
Consulting hours for the CS 121-122-123 courses are held on the odd weeks of the term, starting week 3,  Mon.-Fri. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

CS/SE Freshmen/Sophomore Advisor: Undergrad Advising Center
CS/SE Upper Level Advisor: Andrea Negro
Course Withdraw (Spring term) 
If you plan on withdrawing from a course, you must get an add/drop/withdraw form signed by your instructor and advisor (as well as co-op coordinator if you are currently on co-op). Then bring it to Student Resource Center (SRC) (Main Building, room 222) to be processed. The withdraw deadline is Friday, May 7 at 5 p.m.
Registration
Summer registration opens up May 3, 2010; however, depending on your classification, you may have a different registration date than other students. Your specific date will be listed below:
Athletes/ROTC/Performing Arts - May 3
Matriculated graduate students - May 4
Graduating seniors - May 6
Continuing seniors - May 10
Honors - May 12
Juniors - May 13
Pre-Juniors - May 18
Sophomores - May 21
Freshman - May 26-27
Track Declarations
Reminder: All CS students should declare their two tracks by pre-junior year. If you have not done so yet, please log on the CS Website and click on "My Account" on the left-hand side. Then click on the "Edit" tab and go to "Track Declarations." For more information about each track, click here. If you have any problems or questions, email Andrea Negro. The deadline for track declarations is Friday, May 7, 2010.

Job Opportunity: Department Lab Assistant and Grader 
Lab assistant and grader positions are available for courses offered through the CS Department. Applicants must maintain a GPA of 3.00 or above and possess people skills. These are paid positions.
