A DAY IN THE LIFE OF FOOTE

Waking up to Math: Kindergarten Math Morning

Kindergartners exhibited their math skills at Kindergarten Math Morning on Wed., April 25. Parents spent time in their children's classrooms, then gathered in the Sandine Theater to hear Math Specialist Heather Zetterberg describe the concepts kindergarten students are learning that will prepare them for the future. She also told parents that the library has math games and books with mathematical themes to loan to students.

What a Superb Way to Say Thank You!

profdev

Professional Development Day at Foote was quite the event, thanks to Foote parents. After a morning session devoted to reports about the self-study conducted in preparation for next fall's accreditation team visit, Yaira Matyakubova, a renowned violinist and first violinist of the Haven String Quartet, and Andrius Zlabys, a pianist who has performed with some of the world's best-known orchestras, presented a concert as a thank you to Foote faculty and staff.

There was standing room only as the pair, who are the parents of Justin Zlabys in MAG, played Beethoven's "Spring," a joyous sonata for violin and piano; Cesar Franck's "Prelude, Fugue, and Variation for Violin and Piano;" Prokofiev's "Sonata No. 7 for Piano" and Mr. Zlabys's own "Passacaglia for Violin and Piano."

The parents of the Class of 2011 treated faculty and staff to a visit from the Big Green Pizza Truck and a luncheon smorgasbord of pizza offerings and salad, topped with a sweet treat of gelato and capuccino. Overeating became a happy epidemic.

The Foote School faculty and staff wholeheartedly thank the parents of the Class of 2011 for a marvelous lunch and Yaira and Andrius for a concert that brought tears to the eyes of many in the audience and resulted in a lengthy and heartfelt standing ovation.
