MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS & INFORMATION

An Opportunity for Student Leadership

On Saturday, April 21st, the Connecticut Association of Independent School presents the 10th annual CAIS Student Diversity Leadership Conference.  The goal of this annual event is "to bring students from grades 7-12 and adults from independent schools across the state together for a day of networking and dialogue, facilitating cross-cultural understanding and a call to action to improve our school communities and our world."

Students and teachers from Foote have regularly attended this annual event, and we're looking to gather the group that will represent our school this year. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the King School in Stamford. Foote will cover all registration fees and will provide transportation.

Parents who are interested in learning more may visit the CAIS link. If your son or daughter (in grades 7, 8, or 9) is able to attend, please contact Head of Middle School John Turner.

The Constellations, and Far More

In an effort to promote interdisciplinary learning, the seventh grade science (Tim Blauvelt), humanities (Lara Anderson & Sheila Lavey), Latin (Tina Hansen), and art (Karla Matheny) teachers planned a project centered around the constellations.

After presenting and discussing a Powerpoint slideshow titled "The Wonder of It All" celebrating the awesome nature of the stars through language, visual images, artwork, and poetry, our seventh graders chose a constellation to study, researched the mythology behind the name, and created both a poem and an artwork inspired by the constellation.

We are proud to present this project as it ties in so nicely with our mission statement, specifically "to think and work independently, collaboratively, and creatively" and "to explore the world with joy and purpose."
