A Very Special Day for Learning

Individuals from all walks of life visited our community today, Thurs., Feb. 16, for a day to share their stories as part of Unite Through Understanding Day. They included African-American women who grew up in the segregated South, a Japanese-American grandmother who lived in an internment camp in the United States during World War II, a Holocaust survivor, and many more. Food, cultural celebrations and explanations, yoga, sushi, dancing, the art of henna, Indian decorative art ... the day was a veritable smorgasboard of opportunities at all grade levels to learn about others. Be sure to ask your children about Unite Through Understanding Day when you see them!   (Watch this space next week for a gallery of photos from the day.)

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF FOOTE

Reliving the Construction of the Colosseum

This year in Honors Latin II, the students are doing a series of collaborative research projects centered around the question, "If you had access to a time machine, where and when in the Roman world would you go?" One team decided that they would like to see how the Romans built and used the Colosseum. A team member carefully constructed a representation of the Colosseum in the popular computer game Minecraft, and part of his group's presentation was a virtual tour of the structure and a mock battle.
