Just as children learn music, they also learn from it, and recently, kindergarten and MAG students learned about acceptance and diversity through the songs of Cyd Slotoroff and her "We Can Get Along" program.

Slotoroff encourages students to listen, move, sing along and create songs about friendship, fairness, respecting others, and solving problems with peers.
A noted educator, performer, certified music therapist, and diversity trainer for the Anti-Defamation League, she visited Foote Wed., Jan. 11. She met with kindergartners in the Sandine Theater, then spent time in MAG classrooms.

"All of the feedback I have received has been extremely positive and enthusiastic," says Lower School Head Patty Chamberlain. "I loved how she incorporated the children's ideas into her program and balanced the tone and pace of her presentation so skillfully, switching mood and activity level frequently to keep the children fully engaged. It was magical!"

Making STARS Shine

STARS, the community-building arts enrichment program, met for the first time this year on Martin Luther King Jr., weekend. The program offers arts enrichment to Foote students and students from four New Haven elementary schools.  This winter term more than 50 children from participating schools are taking part.

"I love STARS; it's just a great opportunity for kids to expand their horizons, meet kids from other schools and have some wonderful experiences together," says Director of Admissions Laura Altshul, who has been with the program since its inception. "And it's free!"
