| Just Where is Timbuktu? |
The Geography Bee was a great success! The Bee was held Mon., Jan. 9 and Wed., Jan. 11, with 25 students representing grades 4 - 7. The final round featured 12 students. It was then winnowed to three geographically skilled competitors representing grades 5, 6, and 7. The winner: seventh grader Holden Turner. He answered the question: "Timbuktu, a center of caravan trade for almost a thousand years, is located north of the Niger River in which landlocked country?" His correct answer: Mali. Congratulations, Holden! He will be taking a written test, which will be mailed to the state. If his test rates within the top 100 scorers, he will be invited to the state championships. Thanks and congratulations to everyone who participated.
