"Join us this
weekend as we sample some new arrivals, two Pinot Gris and two Merlots.
We will begin with
the 2009 Church & State Pinot Gris ($19.90). This comes from the Saddle
Ridge Vineyard on Black Sage Bench and the Hollenbach Family Vineyard in
Penticton. The wine has aromas of spicy, ripe pear with hints of lychee leading
to bright flavours of pear and apple with a fresh, crisp finish.
Next is the 2009 Intrigue
Pinot Gris ($15.90). This comes from vineyards along the Skaha Bluffs just
south of Penticton. Rich tropical aromas are balanced with crisp acidity and
flavours of pear and melon. This full bodied wine will show very well with
poultry and flavourful cheeses.
The new 2006 Mt.
Boucherie Merlot ($19.99) is up next. This shows aromas of plums, dark
chocolate, vanilla and gamey notes. Ripe blackberries, cassis and a hint of
black pepper follow on the palate. A rich mouth-feel, good structure and round
tannins lead to a long and smooth finish.
Finally we will taste the 2008 Sandhill Merlot
($19.99). This has a rich garnet colour with a bouquet of plum, blueberry,
black cherry, blackberry, and spice, followed by flavours of blackberries, plum
and currant. Sandhill was recently named Winery of the Year at the 2009 Canadian
Wine Awards.
