Weekend Tasting!!
Fort Berens~!!

2010-06-03 WE

"...pineapple, apple and lime..."

"Join us this Saturday from 2-5 pm as we welcome Heleen Pannekoek, proprietor of Fort Berens Estate Winery!  One hundred and fifty years ago the Hudson's Bay Company began construction of Fort Berens on a sage-brush covered bench on the east side of the Fraser River, at Lillooet. This trading fort was to serve the thousands of prospectors who flocked to the Lillooet region in search of gold. The fort was never completed and the fertile river bench was used instead for the growing of melons, tomatoes and alfalfa. That historic site is now home to Fort Berens Estate Winery, Lillooet's first winery and vineyard.

We will begin with the 2007 Riesling ($18.00). This quite dry Riesling is a crisp, fresh, fruit-forward wine with good acidity and flavours of pineapple, apple and lime.

Next is the 2004 Select Late Harvest Pinot Blanc ($25.00). This naturally lightly sweet wine is a great appetizer, and it is also an excellent match with a cheese platter, a light fruit pie or spicy foods. The flavours suggest baked apple and spice.

We will conclude with the 2007 Meritage ($28.00). This is a blend of 80% merlot, 15% cabernet sauvignon and 5% cabernet franc grapes. The wine was aged for 22 months in French and American oak barrels and recently won a Silver medal at the All Canadian Wine Championships. This should be a fun and interesting tasting!

See You Here
