"...intense exotic fruit..."

"Join us beginning Tuesday as we sample the new 2008 Riesling ($19.90) from this fine winery. Aromas of intense exotic fruit from the plus 20 year old vines lead to notes of mango, pear & baked apple on the palate. This won Silver at the 2009 Northwest Wine Summit!

See You Here!"

Wine Knowledge:

Riesling:

The classic German grape produces a zesty, citrusy, intensely flavoured wine of great minerally complexity, length, and longevity.  When grown on certain soils, the terpenes in Riesling benefit from bottle-age and can, after several years, develop a so-called petrolly bouquet.  Alsace and Austria make most (not all) of the best dry Riesling.  In Australia the wine from this grape has, by and large, a simplistic lime fruit character that is prone to going petrolly in a relatively short while, but lacks the finesse and complexity of truly classic petrolly aromas.

-The Sotheby's Wine Encyclopedia

N.B. - BC Rieslings have become quite popular recently.  Many of the BC VQA Rieslings tend to show citrus and zest with lengthy finishes and lots of complexity.  Some of the older vines can produce great minerality undertones that give Rieslings that exceptional unique flavour.

Greetings!

Happy 2010!

I think I must've had a "tad" bit too much last week.  There was an error in the "BWC Hours of Operation" section.  It has been cleared up now.

It should say Sundays - Wednesdays (not Thurs) 10am to 6pm, and Thursday (not Fri) to Saturday 10am to 7pm... Sorry for the confusion~

Cheers!!

Wishing you GREAT 2010,

"...46.9% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28.4% Merlot, 22.1% Cabernet Franc, 1.4%Pinot Noir, 0.5% Malbec, 0.4% Syrah and 0.3% Petit Verdot..."

"Join us this weekend as we sample the new releases from Cedar Creek Estate Winery.

We will begin with the 2008 Pinot Blanc ($14.90). Always one of our best values, this fresh tasty white comes mainly from the Greata Ranch Vineyard and was fermented in stainless steel, spending eight months on the lees. Aromas of citrus, pineapple, apricot, apple and pear are backed up by subtle notes of caramel, butter and honey.

The 2008 Pinot Gris ($17.90) is next. This was harvested from eight different sites including the home block at CedarCreek and grapes from vineyards located in East Kelowna and Naramata. A combination of stainless steel (75%) and barrel fermentation (4 months in French oak) provides a creamy mouthfeel. There is a refreshing acidity that balances the ripe tropical fruit, such as peaches and guava.

Next up is the 2007 Pinot Noir ($26.90). The grapes come from the CedarCreek and Greata Ranch Vineyards and were aged in a combination of new and one-year old French oak. Aromas of strawberry, raspberry, spice and cherry lead to flavours of nutmeg, cloves and spice on the palate with a nice lingering finish.

We will end with the 2007 Cabernet Merlot ($18.90). This is actually made up of 46.9% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28.4% Merlot, 22.1% Cabernet Franc, 1.4%Pinot Noir, 0.5% Malbec, 0.4% Syrah and 0.3% Petit Verdot. Whew! The grapes for this vintage were harvested from eight different vineyards in Kelowna, Naramata and Osoyoos. The wine features aromas and flavours of violets, roasted red pepper, mint, anise, chocolate and raspberry. Sweet oak aromas provide a rich mouth feel with firm tannins and a long, lingering finish.
