Senior Services/ City of Woodstock Luncheon

The recent Christmas luncheon that we co-hosted with Senior Services Associates and the City of Woodstock brought a large number of people to our campus.  This collaborative effort introduced many community residents to Hearthstone for the first time.  According to Deb Rabine, Director of Marketing at Hearthstone, "many of our current residents came to attend our Garden Luncheon, to play cards or to volunteer and liked what they saw.  They were able to see first-hand how people enjoy living here, making new friends and enjoying the other benefits of a senior living community.

Dear Friends:

If you haven't already done so, consider writing down your goals for the new year.  Make sure your goals are measurable and achievable with some work on your part.  Each new year I write goals for the areas in my life that mean the most to me such as work, church, personal, marriage, family, friends and community.  Be sure to review progress on your goals regularly.  Resolutions often fall by the wayside, but achieving goals helps us to have a greater impact and become the people we want to be.

Happy New Year,

WHS Madrigal SingersJesus' Birthday Party
The Early Learning Center was full of families on December 16 enjoying the music of the Woodstock High School Madrigal Singers, great food and crafts.  Wish lists with our childrens' names were then distributed to the attendees.  Over the next 2 weeks, gifts arrived from Hearthstone staff, residents and employees from Silgan Tubes.  This outpouring of love for our children helped everyone celebrate this season of love begun at the birth of Jesus.

Centegra Execs Volunteer
Members of the senior management team of Centegra Health System spent a morning at Hearthstone with our children and older adults.  Their first immersion into our culture involved decorating gingerbread houses with the children from the Hearthstone Early Learning Center.  This was followed by the creation of books of remembrance through question and answer periods with Hearthstone residents.  Centegra representatives had a wonderful morning and even set up repeat meetings with residents to finish their projects together.

Why Do We Pray?Praying Hands

Today at the Village at Hearthstone's Bible Study, we talked about how God uses the hardships we experience to discipline and shape us into the persons He created us to be. (see Hebrews12)  I suggested that aging can be a hardship.  The group laughed that knowing laugh.  So I asked, "How do you deal with growing older?"  One person answered, "I pray a lot."  Again more laughter, but how true it is.  When we find ourselves in a tough spot we pray a lot.  My family has been praying often in recent weeks as we learned of the possibility of our youngest son having a lymphoma.  Sometimes it seems all we do is pray.  What does unceasing prayer in the face of hardship reveal about us?  Desperation?  Fear?  Confidence?  Faith?  Caught between a rock and a hard place?  It reveals all of those things and more.  Keep in mind that prayer is good no matter the motivation.  So, if this is a hard time for you, go ahead and pray.  Prayer results in us growing closer to God, our fortress and rock.

Is Your Will Missing This?

If you want to protect your family and assets, then your will is the most vital document you can own.  That's not all your will can accomplish, though.  By adding a few simple words, you can extend your charitable support beyond your lifetime.  More
