Woodstock Children's Home
The history of Hearthstone Community's presence in Woodstock began with The Chicago Industrial Home, an orphange founded by Rev. Thomas Arnold, a Free Methodist pastor on the south side of Chicago in the late 1800s. Outgrowing the space in his Chicago home, Rev. Arnold relocated the Home to Woodstock and the Woodstock Children's Home was built on land donated by a local farmer.
The details of this story along with the story of the organization of the Old People's Rest Home were recounted by staff members Rev. Randy Waller, JoAnne Fries and Rick Curtis during the 125th Anniversary Celebration. |
