125th Anniversary

It was the year of the dedication of the Statue of Liberty, the Haymarket Riot in Chicago and the World Series when the St. Louis Browns defeated the Chicago White Stockings.  The year was 1886, and it was also the year that the ministry known today as Hearthstone Communities began.  A Free Methodist pastor, Rev. Thomas Arnold, organized the Industrial Home for Children in Chicago, an orphanage which slso expanded into a senior living community and is now known as Hearthstone Communities.  Hearthstone Communities now serves over 175 older adults in its senior living campus and over 120 children in its Early Learning Center.

In this our 125th anniversary year, we invite you to celebrate with us as we look back on the legacy we've been given and look ahead to our bright future.

Please join us in this year-long celebration of God's love that has been the mainstay of our programs.  Your generous gift will enable us to continue this remarkable ministry and assure a bright future for the older adults and children of McHenry County.

Dear Friends:

Happy New Year everyone!  2011 will be a special year for us at Hearthstone Communities.  The roots of our ministry to children began in Chicago 125 years ago.  Many, many people have given of their time, talent and treasure to get to this point in our history and we owe them a debt of gratitude.  Several celebrations are being planned throughout the year and we'd be honored to have you join in with us.

Handkes

Jim and Jean Handke pose for a yuletide photo in front of the Christmas tree at Hearthstone Village during the annual Christmas dinner for residents of Hearthstone Village and Hearthstone Court.  This year's menu included shrimp cocktail, caesar salad, poached salmon, prime rib of beef, twice baked potato, green beans almondine and cheesecake for dessert.  Now these folks know how to kick off the Christmas season!

PacoFriends of Nathan Help Student

Paco, a student at Hearthstone Early Learning Center, suffers from leukemia.  You'd never guess his situation if you witnessed his energy and enthusiasm for life.  The Friends of Nathan, a private foundation

founded by Stephen and Janet Smith, has decided to provide Paco's family with funds to help defray the costs related to his medical treatment.  Recently the Smiths made a financial commitment of $170,000 toward the renovation of the Mary and Carl Mueller Rehabilitation Center on the campus of Hearthstone Communities.

Moving VanCorporate Offices Return to Campus Moving Van

In a move designed consolidate all elements of the Continuing Care Retirement Community on the Hearthstone campus, the corporate offices have returned from an interim location at American Community Bank.  Three vacant apartments in Hearthstone Village have been used to house the offices of Terry Egan, CEO; Dick Hattan, Director of Development; Deb Rabine, Director of Marketing; and Randy Waller, Director of Pastoral Services plus two part-time marketing team members.  This new location will provide the benefit of closer access to operations and a reduction in rental and utilities expense.  Phone numbers, mailing addresses and email addresses will remain unchanged.

Footings and slabs were poured for the first of the Prairie Home duplexes on the campus of Hearthstone Communities. "Despite inclement weather, the project is off to a good start," stated Terry Egan, CEO of Hearthstone Communities.  A Sales and Infoormation Center is under construction across from the duplex projects in Hearthstone Village, 840 N. Seminary.  Units will be occupied by people 55 years of age and older creating a new community of older adults living independently.     More
