As nonprofits are challenged to become more innovative and diversified in their fundraising strategies, good old fashioned grants remain a common-and important-source of revenue. However, the growth of the nonprofit sector and the fragility of the economy raise new questions and challenges for grant seekers. When pushed to do more with less, nonprofits need to work smarter, not harder, in order to be successful in grant seeking.
During this session, participants will explore the four primary reasons grant proposals are declined including which elements are within your control and what is simply out of your hands (not much!). We'll analyze the twelve points that foundations commonly use to evaluate grant requests, and we'll discuss the Grant Seekers Top 10 (habits, systems and strategies that are often overlooked). Then we'll spend some time creating a personal action plan that will help you build all of these critical elements into your grant-seeking culture.
Beyond the theory of good proposal development, we'll also spend some time on best practices: the importance of validating your needs, identifying key partners for collaboration, and your ability to measure and demonstrate change. We'll talk about what to write, how to write, and where to go for help. But we'll also talk about how to identify and focus your time on the most likely funders of your project, allowing you to be more efficient AND effective.
Designed for entry to mid level practitioners.
