Nominations Being Sought for 2012 Governor's Service Awards

The Michigan Community Service Commission (MCSC) is excited to announce they are now seeking nominations for the 2012 Governor's Service Awards. These awards are given annually by the Governor to acknowledge individuals, organizations, and businesses that are committed to service and volunteerism in their communities.

 

The 2012 Governor's Service Awards nomination form is available for download on the MCSC's website at www.michigan.gov/volunteer. A hard copy of the nomination form is also available and can be obtained by contacting the MCSC at (517) 335-4295.

 

Nominations for the Governor's Service Awards must be postmarked by Thursday, March 1, 2012. New this year, nominations will also be accepted electronically at GSA@michigan.gov. Electronic materials should be submitted by the March 1 deadline and should be formatted as PDF files, with the exception of photos which should be in JPEG format.

Inspired Governance

This session will examine how nonprofit governance is changing in order to address intensifying and complex social, legislative and economic demands.  We will discuss the changing requirements for serving on a board, how to be an effective board member and build a "best practicing" board and how exceptional nonprofit boards are responding to and positioning for a changing environment. We will discuss organizational lifecycle stages and implications for the Board and management team's roles and responsibilities. Learn how exceptional boards transform their governance and advance their leadership practices. Designed for nonprofit managers, board officers, board members, and individuals considering board service.
