Marketing manager role description

Ah, the world of
databases
...

Can't live with them, can't live without them. But we all know that our ability to effectively manage the constellation of constituents: clients, donors, volunteers, and staff that comprise our nonprofit's universe, is at the mercy of the database we've chosen and our skills in using it.

Northwestern Michigan College
University Center, room 5

Robin Lynn Grinnell, Independent Consultant/Trainer Program Officer at Cook Family Foundation

As our nonprofit environment becomes more focused on collaboration, and as nonprofits see human resources stretched, more and more, projects are being accomplished by teams of people (whether we like it or not!). Whether from the same or different organizations, leading a group of people to a common end can be tricky. In this session we’ll discuss how you engage people with different motivations for being involved; we’ll explore ways to bring folks to a common vision and a sense of group ownership; and we’ll look at a variety of project management tools that will keep the group moving forward. Yes, herding cats IS possible—you just need a good strategy (and lots of treats).

Nonprofit Sector Among Few Growth Engines of Michigan

Economy, Report Finds (1/18/11)

The nonprofit sector is the fourth-largest employer in Michigan and has been one of the few engines of job growth in the state in recent years, a new report from the Center for Civil Society Studies [http://www.ccss.jhu.edu] at Johns Hopkins University finds.

The report, Michigan Nonprofit Employment, found that the sector employs nearly one of every ten workers in the state — eleven times that of the auto industry. The report also found that nonprofit employment in the state grew 17.4 percent between 2001 and 2007, partially offsetting the massive job losses that were taking place in the private business sector, and grew an average of 1.3 percent annually between the second quarter of 2007 and the second quarter of 2009.

The Top of the Pyramid: Planned Giving from the Donors' Perspective

Northwestern Michigan CollegeMarch 24, 2011
Noon to 2 p.m.
Northwestern Michigan College
University Center, room 5

Phillip Ellis, Executive Director, Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation
Dave Eitland, Director of Fund Development and Marketing, YMCA

Fee: $10

Planned giving including endowments represents a largely untapped opportunity for many nonprofit organizations. It can also be one of the most complex of fundraising strategies. From the various financial instruments that can be employed to delicate discussions with prospective donors and their heirs, it can be a tough for even the most seasoned fundraiser. Yet, planned giving is often the most lucrative component of a fund development program with benefits for the donor, heirs, and the nonprofit organization.

During this session, we will discuss the range of financial instruments, endowments, how to implement a planned giving committee, how to communicate about planned giving, and how to approach prospective donors and their heirs about estate plans.
