Marketing manager role description

Ah, the world of
databases
...

Can't live with them, can't live without them. But we all know that our ability to effectively manage the constellation of constituents: clients, donors, volunteers, and staff that comprise our nonprofit's universe, is at the mercy of the database we've chosen and our skills in using it.

Organizations often start tracking data using basic forms and spreadsheets. However, as your organization's services expand, you'll quickly find that tracking data in multiple spreadsheets can be time consuming. The good news is there are several low cost options available to nonprofits, ranging from all-in-one tools such as WildApricot.com, to powerful platforms such as Salesforce.com. This session will give you an overview of several different software packages and provide a solid framework to help you evaluate alternatives.

Aimed at individuals tasked with data tracking and reporting for grassroots to mid-sized nonprofit organizations.

Save the National and Community Service and its Programs

On February 19, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 1, legislation that would make deep cuts in government spending for the rest of the fiscal year. The measure — which eliminates the Corporation for National and Community Service and its programs — passed 235-189. Click here to learn how your Representative voted.

With programs like AmeriCorps, Learn and Serve and Senior Corps at risk, your local community could potentially lose the support of critical organizations like [enter your organization here], Teach For America, Foster Grandparents, Senior Companions, Habitat for Humanity, Public Allies, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, YouthBuild and many others, jeopardizing services in education, youth development, elderly services, healthcare and nutrition.

The House vote is just one step in the legislative process. The bill has been sent to the Senate for their consideration, and the Senate and the President will have opportunities to shape and influence the final spending package. But it is up to us to make certain that the final bill restores funding for service!

Members of Congress have left Washington and returned home for a week-long recess. They will be back in their states and districts talking to constituents, and this presents the perfect opportunity for us to express our disappointment with the House vote and ask that funding for the Corporation for National and Community Service be restored in the final spending bill. Read more about how to impact the Senate vote. [link]

Learning to Herd Cats (or Effective Project Team Management)

Northwestern Michigan CollegeMarch 17, 2011
10 to 11:30 a.m.
Northwestern Michigan College
University Center, room 5

Robin Lynn Grinnell, Independent Consultant/Trainer Program Officer at Cook Family Foundation

Fee: $15

As our nonprofit environment becomes more focused on collaboration, and as nonprofits see human resources stretched, more and more, projects are being accomplished by teams of people (whether we like it or not!). Whether from the same or different organizations, leading a group of people to a common end can be tricky. In this session we’ll discuss how you engage people with different motivations for being involved; we’ll explore ways to bring folks to a common vision and a sense of group ownership; and we’ll look at a variety of project management tools that will keep the group moving forward. Yes, herding cats IS possible—you just need a good strategy (and lots of treats).

Entry to advanced-level practitioners, volunteers, and board members.
