Focus group research is a useful tool for collecting in-depth information about consumer needs, perceptions, behaviors and motivations. While surveys and other "quantitative" research can help you predict behavior, focus groups can help you understand "why" people act as they do. Focus groups can effectively be used to develop survey questions or to understand why people responded as they did to a survey. Focus groups are NOT good tools to predict behavior. Learn the basics of conducting focus group research including how to design the sessions, develop a discussion guide, recruit participants, facilitate the sessions, and analyze the findings. COSA Amendment Signed by Governor!

Exciting News! On December 22, the bill that makes some much needed revisions to the Charitable Organizations and Solicitation Act (COSA) was signed by Governor Granholm. This legislation, one of the Nonprofit Caucus’ legislative priorities, will benefit Michigan’s nonprofit community by weeding out bad actors that are “charities” in name only. Among other things, this legislation will increase the fines and punishments for those organizations and individuals that purposely violate the provisions in the act, in order to protect the nonprofit community from fraudulent activities.
