Amanda Hilt, Volunteer Coordinator, United Way Volunteer Center Fee: $40, Includes continental breakfast and lunch Exceptional volunteer programs are easy to spot. Those are the programs with plenty of volunteers who stay around for a long time and perform a vast array of tasks throughout the organization. They are the organizations with enthusiastic and energetic volunteers from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. We will spend the day reviewing the best practices of exceptional volunteer programs, including how they recruit, manage, develop, and retain their volunteers. We will also review the role technology and systems play in volunteer management and how to work with the “non traditional” volunteer. This session will be interactive with plenty of time to discuss and use new tools and techniques. Entry to mid-level practitioners and volunteers Hestia Women’s Giving Circle Announces Funding Availability Are you part of an organization in Emmet and Charlevoix seeking funding for projects that help local women and girls? The Hestia Women’s Giving Circle is welcoming applications for its third grant cycle. Applications are due February 1, and grants will be awarded by May. Organizations applying for grants must have 501(c)3 non-profit status or be a school or government agency, or have a fiscal agent with non-profit status. The Giving Circle is a donor-advised fund of the Charlevoix County Community Foundation (CCCF) which also assists the Giving Circle in grant making and distribution. Applications will be available on the Foundation’s website at www.c3f.org. Potential applications should call Maureen Radke at CCCF at (231) 536-2440 in advance. Traverse City Light & Power is Currently Accepting Grant Applications Traverse City Light & Power’s (L&P) Community Investment Fund is currently accepting grant applications until February 1, 2011, for the winter grant period. Funds are generally awarded to non-profit organizations or groups for specific educational, environmental and community development purposes. The requesting organization must reside in the Traverse City area, be nonprofit (i.e. be exempt from federal income tax under the Internal Revenue Code) and operate for public purposes. The grant guidelines and application can be found on the L&P website. Rotary Charities Announces Change to Grant Guidelines On Wednesday, December 8, the Rotary Charities Board announced a change to its grant guidelines. Rotary Charities will only accept multiple year grant applications once per year on September 1. Small capital (under $100,000) and single year program grant applications will be accepted March 1 and September 1. Planning grants will still be accepted on a continuous basis.
