 Richmond Hill Museum

*Richmond Hill Museum*

If you want to come and see what the Richmond Hill Museum has to offer, come on by and take a look.  The Richmond Hill Historical Society has been working hard to update the displays, and if you have not visited in awhile, you may see things you have not seen before.  They also have a wonderful gift shop with local items that make great presents! The museum is open Mon 10-3 and Thurs-Sat 10-3. It is always a good idea to give them a call to verify the hours since they do close for holidays and special events. There is no charge for the museum, but donations are gratefully accepted.

Greetings!

Fall is right around the corner, and things are happening in Richmond Hill!  This month our community has some great activities to offer and some exciting news for residents and visitors alike.
Mystery Envelops the Richmond Hill Museum!

Author, David Ross Willis, will be speaking at the September 3rd meeting of the Richmond Hill Historical Society. Willis, a local writer of mysteries, will be sharing his ideas and creative processes with the audience. His next novel will be set in the 1930's and 1940's in the Savannah area. The presentation will be at the Richmond Hill Museum on September 3rd at 7:00 PM.

Come visit the Museum and stay for the lecture. A book signing will follow Willis's talk. Refreshments will be served. Our lecture series is free and open to the general public. If you have any questions or need directions please call the Richmond Hill Museum at (912)756-3697. We look forward to seeing you.

GDEcD is sponsoring the Great GPS Giveaway sweepstakes. Every month through October 2009, visitors and residents alike are invited to submit their Georgia vacation photos on www.ExploreGeorgia.org. All submitted photos will also be considered for use in state publications and collateral materials, including the state's official 2010 Travel Guide. The submitted photos will be featured on ExploreGeorgia.org, and a new winner will take home the grand prize each month: a brand-new Garmin GPS. Contestants can upload as many photographs as they wish: the more times they enter, the greater their chances of winning. Visit www.ExploreGeorgia.org for full contest rules and entry forms.
Historic Preservation Grant Awarded!

The Historic Preservation Division announced that nine Preserve America communities in Georgia will receive federally funded matching grants to conduct heritage tourism activities involving their community landmarks.  The city of Richmond Hill will receive $10,000 for new markers for the new Coastal Bryan Heritage Trail.

In a collaborative effort the city of Richmond Hill, The Richmond Hill Historical Society, and the Richmond Hill Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) will establish a historic tourism passage through south Bryan County called the Coastal Bryan Heritage Trail.  The historic marker program, a correlating informational brochure, an online geocaching adventure, and online marketing will guide visitors through the historic sites of Richmond Hill and south Bryan County.  Look for future updates on the status of this project!

Thanks for reading this month's newsletter!

Last month's CVB Business Forum went well, and we all learned a lot about the many low and no-cost marketing services that the State Department of Economic Development offers
to tourism related businesses.

Save the Date!

The next Business Forum is scheduled for Tuesday November 10th at 8:30am at the Wetlands Educational Center in J. F. Gregory Park.  It will be a breakfast meeting to tour and discuss the new City Center building. If your business is interested in catering to visitors to our community or event planning, make sure you contact the CVB office (912-756-2676) to reserve your seat.

Sincerely,
