Edmonton, AB -- As part of the TELUS World of Science- Edmonton's Real People, Real Science series, Edmonton area students have the unique opportunity to connect with Astronaut Chris Hadfield live from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida via Skype, to learn about his upcoming mission where he will become the first Canadian Commander of the International Space Station - a milestone for Canadian space exploration. In addition to overseeing operations as Commander, he will carry out scientific experiments, operate Canadarm2 and perform various robotics tasks. Astronaut Hadfield is currently in Florida for the launch of Space Shuttle Discovery, set to launch on February 24, 2011, at 4:40 p.m. EST.
Media are invited to attend this session with these Grade 6 and 9 students. Each class will have a spokesperson to ask Astronaut Hadfield a question about his experiences in space and as an astronaut. The feed will be linked into the IMAX Theatre as well as the Margaret Zeidler Theatre, giving the 524 students the chance of a lifetime to talk with an astronaut.
