TELUS World of Science Celebrates Math Fun for Students
Local schools take part in interactive Math Festival
Edmonton, AB - As part of its Real People: Real Science series, TELUS World of Science is hosting over 850 students from Edmonton and the surrounding areas to a Math Festival between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 21 and Friday, October 22. The event is a Gathering 4 Gardner Celebration of the Mind (G4G - CoM) which is part of an international initiative to highlight the playful side of math in honor of late math writer Martin Gardner.
"Martin Gardner was very influential in bringing the creative aspects of math to light," says Kelsey Armstrong, Director of School Programs at TELUS World of Science. "We are inspired by his work and this event treats students to an interactive experience to show them how math is a key component in puzzles and games."
Borrowing the format of the traditional Science Fair, the Math Festival at TELUS World of Science features a Math Fair where junior high and high school students set up booths to present their own projects that showcase fun ways to demonstrate the concepts they learn in the classroom. Visiting students will be able to also solve puzzles and brain teasers, see a full-dome show on the idea of infinity and help build giant art piece using math patterns in dominoes.
There is a Gathering 4 Gardner Celebration of the Mind Math Festival event planned for the public at TELUS World of Science on Saturday, October 23 between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. This event is open to everyone and is included with a General Admission ticket.
