The name comes from two Japanese words "ashi" meaning foot and "atsu" meaning pressure. During an Ashiatsu massage the therpaist is never actually walking on your back.  She suspends herself with supports installed in the ceiling while applying different foot strokes along your body.  Gravitational force is combined with centrifugal (towards the heart) and centripetal (away from the heart) movements to bring about a structural change in chronic soft tissue damage that provides deep relaxtion and stimulates the lymphatic system.
