Kumon Steeplechase to Relocate
In order better to serve your children, we will move to a larger location.
There are exciting changes under way at Kumon Steeplechase. We have dramatically outgrown our existing location. We are in the process of acquiring the building at 11110 Steeplecrest, located next to the former Randalls' shopping center less than a quarter mile from our current location. We have not yet closed on the building, but hope to do so by the end of the year. After we acquire the building, we will need to do a lot of work to it (including painting it and extending the parking lot!) to prepare for holding Kumon classes. Our current hope is that we can relocate over MLK, Jr. weekend, or in that general time frame. It will take about four or five weeks to complete the work, but we will keep you apprised when we have a date for the move. Our new space will be twice as large as our current one, and is adjacent to two day care centers and a Taekwondo school. My vision is that we would be part of a "campus" of after-school activities. I am currently seeking a tenant for the approximately 2650 square feet that will remain once the Kumon space is prepared. If you own or know of a compatible business which is seeking space in this area, please let me know. In light of this relocation, and in response to multiple requests by parents, we will discontinue Wednesday classes starting in January so that I will be available for parent conferences on Wednesday evenings. I will still remain available after class on Tuesdays and Saturdays, but will simply add Wednesdays as conference days for your convenience. Do note that none of these changes impacts the Fairfield Center. That Center will continue to hold classes on Mondays and Thursdays, with parent conferences available after class. |

Tuition Increase Announced;
Students Enrolled by December 18 and Attending Each Month in 2011 Will Defer Increase Until 2012.
It has been three years since our last fee increase, and in that time our costs, particularly minimum wage, utilities and office supplies, have skyrocketed. I have been making cost cutting measures in an attempt to delay the inevitable but will have to raise tuition rates to $135 per month per subject effective for those enrolling after January 1.
However, in deference to my existing students, those students enrolled on or before December 18, 2010, and not taking any months off in 2011, will enjoy the $125 per subject monthly rate until January 1, 2012. If an existing student takes a month off during 2011, he or she will return at the new rate of $135 per subject per month.
I hope those who have been putting off enrolling in Kumon, or adding a second subject, will take advantage of this opportunity to save up to $120 per subject by signing up by December 18. |

Help a Homeless Family
This year we are sponsoring a program to help our students be aware of the less fortunate. We are collecting items to assist the Mission of Yahweh, the only shelter for homeless women and their children in northwest Houston. For more about this charity, please visit
www.missionofyahweh.org.
It is important for our community to help these children so they might break out of the cycle of poverty. It is important for our children to learn the lessons of helping others in need and gratitude for what they have.
To help make the season brighter for a homeless child, you can do one of the following:
o Donate a new gift for a child (between $10 and $15 value), wrap it, but please don't use bows. Label the gift with an age range and gender, if appropriate. Label dolls with their ethnicity.
o Donate a new stuffed animal. There's no need to wrap it
o Provide any of the following items:
Frozen Turkey Canned Green Beans
Stuffing Mix Canned Corn
Instant Potatoes Canned Yams or Sweet Potatoes
Canned Cranberry Sauce
Canned Fruit Cocktail
Donations must be received at either Kumon Center no later than Wednesday, December 15. We will take them to the Mission on Thursday, December 16. They will be distributing the gifts to the families on December 18. For more information, contact our business manager, Jan Scarpati, at jan@kumonfs.com. |
