Greetings!

We are busily working on our Annual Awards Ceremony, a chance for us to honor our wonderful students for their hard work all year. As usual, it will be held at the Berry Center. See more information below, including the preliminary list of awards to be issued.

Also note: our Movie Night has been rescheduled to Sunday, April 25 at Fairfield. There will be more information on this in a separate, upcoming email.

We are making plans for a week of Parent/Student/Instructor Conference and Goal Setting Meetings in June. Please make plans to schedule and attend one of these sessions so we can make sure your child is on track for fully achieving his/her potential!
Awards Ceremony Saturday, April 17th
Held at Berry Center

Mark your calendars NOW for our Ninth Annual Awards Ceremony, to be held Saturday, April 17, at 4 PM at the Berry Center Theater. This Ceremony will honor students from BOTH Kumon of Fairfield and Kumon Steeplechase.

There is a cake and punch reception following the ceremony. Nice dress is encouraged. Watch for a video featuring some of our more successful students; seeing such children often encourages other similar children in their Kumon stories.

If your child is too newly enrolled in Kumon to have attained any of these distinctions, your family is still invited! Please come! Often parents find the Ceremony motivational for their student to continue their Kumon studies and to attain these honors as well the following year. Please be berry theatermindful it usually takes about a year or more of study to attain these levels.

Currently enrolled families have received a separate email listing students eligible for awards. PLEASE REVIEW THIS LIST CAREFULLY TO ENSURE YOUR CHILD IS SCHEDULED TO RECEIVE THE AWARD YOU ARE ANTICIPATING. NOTIFY ME IMMEDIATELY OF ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE.

I look forward to a fun event honoring the hard work of these students!
Watch for an upcoming email regarding the Two Million Minutes Movie!
We are proud to offer this movie FREE to the community. Please feel free to invite your friends.

On Sunday, April 25, we will host a Movie Night at Kumon of Fairfield (sorry, folks, it's bigger than Steeplechase and so can seat more people). This fascinating movie compares the education in the US to that in India and China--and it gives some real clear indication of why these two countries are emerging as significant world powers: they are educating their children very well. This movie is a must see for any parent, student, or educator. See their web site for more information. An email devoted to this showing will be coming out in a couple of weeks.

Everyone is welcome to attend, although RSVPs are requested due to the limited seating. Please feel free to invite your friends.

We're Number One!
We were recently informed that Kumon  Steeplechase ranks number one in Texas in two important categories!

We just learned that Kumon Steeplechase leads the state in percentage of Kumon students attaining Honor Roll (over 70%) and also percentage of students working two years or more above grade level (over 30%). In fact, in the former category, only 10 Centers in North America exceed our statistics. In the latter category, only 20 Centers in North America exceed our statistics. (Data is based on 2009, before Fairfield was opened.)

Why this outstanding achievement? To me, it's pretty clear: This is YOUR honor. It is your dedication to your child's studies, your diligence in home grading, and your support of your child, that sets our Center apart. I am so proud of each of you and the dedication you have shown. It truly shows in the outstanding results your children enjoy.

Summer Study Maximizes Performance in the Fall!
Opportunity to move ahead

Kumon is a year-round Program; the exciting aspect of this is that it provides a wonderful opportunity for your child to move ahead in his studies during the summer while his classmates are taking the summer off. Because Kumon students study twice as many days each year as there are class days at school, they are able powerfully to move ahead, particularly during the summer. Often our students, particularly our older students wishing to attain grade level and beyond, increase their workload during the summer to jet propel their advancement. If you have any questions about possible adjustments to your child's schedule for the summer, please be sure to email me.

Parent/Student/Instructor Conferences are Coming in June!
Plan to take the time to meet with me. Let's discuss your child's progress so far, and set some goals.

This is just a heads up that we will be scheduling meetings to talk with you and your students, now tentatively set for the week of June 21. We will be closed for class that week so I can focus on each family and make sure we are on the same page with respect to your child. I would like older children to participate in this exercise as well so they have more ownership of their Kumon plan. More information on this later.
